1/28:
It turns out that the corrugated panels were too efficient. With domes on the germination trays, the temperatures were over 90F. With the lights at 3" from the soil surface and plastic domes on the trays, foil skirts with some air circulation seems to keep everything nice and warm - mid 80"s - and the soil mixes moist. So far the soil mix is winning the germination race over the orchid mix (sifted out big chunks), but I see that there are some more sprouts pushing up in the orchid mix.
So far, 12 starts with cotyledons, and a number more pushing up dirt. The first seed germinated on day 5, and eleven more on day 6. There's a list in my Glog: (http://www.thehotpep...og/page__st__20).
This set-up has worked well with general garden veggies in the past, glad to see it's working with some peppers as well. It will be interesting to see how the Habanero varieties and the ornamentals do.
