Lovely NE day...low humidity/sunny & 80's...time so share a few then do my chores..thought I had the day off. :P

This is a plant I got  about 6 weeks ago when it was in bloom..am so delighted that I was able to get it to rebloom, lovely plant & scent is equally alluring. Stephanotis / Madagascar Jasmine

A bit on the plant ;posted 2nd  photo of the open buds...will update when these current buds open.

..Marsdenia floribunda,  is native to Madagascar and has flowers with a fragrance reminiscent of jasmine. It is a tropical twining woody climber that grows in its native habitat to 12-20' tall. Houseplants in containers grow much shorter. Thick, oval, glossy deep green leaves (to 4" long) are evergreen. Intensely fragrant, narrow-tubular, waxy white flowers (to 4" long) in axillary cymes of 3-6 bloom summer to fall.

Hi Scott, thanks so much..Oh yes,I believe you have folks in LI?

Oh,I owe everything  to NYC ...it has played a major part in who I am today & I'm forever grateful...was fortunate  to

worked with some of the best & brightest from the world over.

So while CT. is home now ...NY is near/dear to my heart & soul,I esp., miss the good food, culture & the ease of travel.

It's always nice to go back & know which train/bus to hop on & feel like a local.. ;)

Thanks CD for answering my query,as you always do. ;) .I don't know much about xes,as I seldom grow them, but that one came as a gift seed from GIP.

It is ~0.75 inch..and the plant has only 1 pod, some flowers, the J Beetles took care of  some ,I will let you know as it grows,

.I will read up on the genetics an the link you supplied.

Re: the Piper Nigrum...yes it's been a fascination of mine for a while,..unfortunately  cool/cold weather is it's enemy.I enjoy

learning about it & I tried some small plants.now  ancient  hx,then bought a 3 gal one mail order, it was lge and grew well, till late winter

when it lost almost all of its leaves,it's a high humidity, high temp plant, some say full/others say partial sun..It's alive ,some

new leaves are starting out,but it's very  s l o w  growing...it can grow from cuttings,if they take,but that would take forever

for my liking.  It's testing my patience...let's see how this does...the next 2 weeks is critical.

Now Matt has his flowering & I'm wishing it were  mine. Very nice plant.

.Logee's is pricey for little cuttings that are just barely rooted.

I'll keep you posted & I'll take a photo later on..it's not pretty...be forewarned.

PN is my favorite topic of recent,I'll think positive that it will turn around. ;)

The Monarch Butterfly population is decreasing.Monarch butterflies lay their eggs on just one type of plant, and that's milkweed (genus Asclepias).

Here's my contribution to save the Monarch Bfly. I notice a few around among numerous other types,

This is called Lippia Micromera, uncommon here in the US,but a popular type of 'THYME' used in South America/Caribbean

food...I tracked it down  in Florida, while reading  through comments on a Food Forum..it's funny how you find stuff,

this was a few yrs ago. It;s ovbiously  tropical,so it comes indoor..I grow many cutting  in summer to have a few plants indoors.

It goes by many other names...here's a close up & below one of my larger plants..some effects from cooler days.oregano%2Bpoleo%2Blippia.JPG

This one is Chacoense 'Most Prolific" so I think that means lotsa pods.. TBH,I am not too fond of chacoense,b/c there are so many.

if that is a reason..they are tasty...I  grew the Purple Flower Chaco,& that was different & so oh pretty.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for replying ...what may be the issue is the radiator was ~1.5 ft away,so that could be a factor...it was near a  window also.

I'll move it to another place in the fall & see.I am a bit concerned about the yellowing on your plant,I've read a lot on the plant but

never any mention of yellowing, they are all green...if I read anything I'll let you know.Nice of you to share a photo ;)

This is a typical photo I encounter in my readings.

black-pepper3.jpg

Definitely not a wiriwiri, xed ? I got the seeds from my brother in Canada who got it from a Guyanese family where the plant originated.

I  have  a decent amt of plants growing as I save the pods in the freezer & use them almost daily...it''s tiny almost as tiny as Wild Brazil.

I'll send you some pods @ the end of summer if you want,or if you prefer just the seeds...not an issue either way.

I noted some folks sell Mariwiri for Wiriwiri .I have both but prefer the Wiriwiri...it's a winner in my book.

I;ll post photos of my plants as they  load up with pods.

Happy Summer. ;)

Hey Matt..Nice photos of your plants...all looks great...nice place you have there.

Now a plant you have has caught my eye..the piper nigrum...I am fascinated by that plant, more so that I bought one last yr

and brought it indoors when the temps dipped to the low 60's & it did well

till late winter when it dropped many leaves...Despite my keeping the humidity up by all means.

It was in a 3 gal  container but it was root bound  so I transplanted.

As of now I see some new leaves starting out but it's a slow grower  so I have to wait & see what happens.

My ?  is how did you keep it going during winter & did you lose any leaves?

When I saw your photo showing the beginning  of flower formation I was very  impressed.

So tell me how you did it & congrats on getting it to bloom. ;)
