Jalapeño relish

I've been buying jalapeño relish that I use to mix with my Taco Bell Hot sauce when eating a homemade burrito. While I enjoy the relish I've been buying, I started thinking that I might be able to make my own, but I lack the knowledge to do so. Does anyone have a great recipe for jalapeño relish?

(Also, I'd be open to a substitute recipe for the hot sauce if anyone has one)

Too many hot sauce recipe's to give you the end all be all. Check the recipes in this forum. Sure you'll find one that appeals to you.

For the relish I would stem several 'peno's, toss them in the food zipper. Get them to about normal pickle size. Start a pot boiling with white vinegar and dump the japs in. Add salt and a little sugar to taste, as well as a bit of lime juice. The amounts will vary depending on what you like. Cool and use. Spruce it up with some garlic and onion. 'Peno relish is a no fail. Now do your 'thang.

Cheers, TB.

Aieeee!
We gotta fix that problem ASAP...

Here's a quick search: http://www.thehotpepper.com/search.php?searchid=1222718

And, my semi-infamous Hab & Tomatillo Relish: http://www.thehotpepper.com/showthread.php?t=11685

Ya can substitute stuff in that one.

Here's another good basic recipe:

Relish is pretty easy to cook up. :)

If ya can find Mrs Renfros Green Salsa in your supermarket, it's damn good too.

Not a relish really, but it's very good and decently hot. It's a fave.

BTW..remember how they used to give out green jalapeno sauce at Taco Bell and Taco Johns? Well, all that was made outa was a #10 can of jalapenos, salt, and some water in a commercial blender. This is like that..but better...it rocks on tacos/burritos.

Yeah...I like the whole product line.
I'm lucky that they actually carry it in supermarkets here.

what's funny is that green sauce seems hotter than the hab one they sell.

I wonder what AJ thinks about it, seeing as it's from his neck 'o the woods.

+1 On Renfros, as it's the only salsa in the grocery stores here labeled HOT that actually has a nice burn it! Their Hab salsa isn't going to make you sweat or anything, but does have a nice burn. Now I gotta find this green stuff...

Well you can just experiment and make your own, or if you want a Taco Bell kinda hot sauce that is much better, try: http://www.marcosauces.com/products.html. The hot sauce has that pungent, spicy (as in spices) taco hot sauce flavor.

Maybe mix what Quad posted and what I posted, and if you like it, just make your own following the ingredient lists.

Heres a copy cat Taco Bell recipe mix in more jala's or add a pepper of choice --

* 2 tsp. Distilled white vinegar

* 2 T Canned jalapeno slices

Directions

1. Combine the tomato paste with the water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until smooth.
2. Add the cayenne pepper, chili powder, salt, cornstarch, vinegar, and dried onion and Stir.
3. Chop the jalapeno slices very fine. You can use a food processor, but don't puree.
4. Heat the mixture to boiling.
5. Continue to stir about 3 minutes and remove from the heat.
6. Let the sauce stand until cool.
7. Put in a tightly sealed container and refrigerate.
8. This will last for 1 to 2 months. Makes 3 1/2 Cups.
