First Ripe Bhut Jolokia of 2009

The guys at work yesterday were wanting me to bring something hot in today so I picked this Bhut Jolokia pod a few minutes ago...it is gorgeous and big...over 3" long and weighs 10 grams...this is a Pablo pepper...off spring of the world record plants...

one of the guys is the type that says "you can't make it too hot for me"...we will just see how hot he really likes things...

we will have a taste test about 9 this morning...

I just decided to take a Trinidad Scorpion too just in case the Bhut is not hot enough for their taste...

Nice and gnarly AJ. Your coworkers will love it I'm sure. "chuckle" I have a few Bhuts turning right now and should be ready in a week. I'm looking forward to it.

that should be interesting

he'll probably be like :mouthonfire:

and you'll be like :hell:

Yes, a video of the taste test would be very entertaining.

Nice pods AJ, from the looks of that Bhut I doubt you'll need the scorp backup. ;)

Great looking pods AJ.

Best of luck to your coworker. Doesn't he know what you do, who you are? You're the baddest pepper growin' mutha' west of the Mississippi.

Poor bastard.

Poor stupid bastard.:(

can't bring cameras/videos into the fighter factory...well, I could, but I don't need/want to go to federal prison...

The taste test went well...I cut ~1/8" rings of the Bhut and 5 of us ate one...the "guy" wanted more saying that wasn't enough for him...I asked him what kind of peppers he liked and he said he liked cayennes and a orange habanero every now and then...so I gave him a piece about one inch long to the stem...the 5 of us that ate the rings were burning pretty good, but the size of the ring we ate was bareable...the guy chewed up the big piece then walked off...I haven't seen him since...hope he is OK...maybe I will check medical....nah...he asked for it

everyone that ate the rings said it was definitely the hottest pepper they had ever tasted and were amazed a small slice could put so much burn in your mouth...

we are going to slice and taste test the scorpion in a few minutes...

I am still not convinced the Bhut is hotter than the scorpion...we will take a vote on it in a few minutes after the test...

I doubt he shows up for the scorp sampling. :D

I did that with a fatalii yesterday.
The guy that said he could eat ANYTHING had a 1/8" ring from it.
Immediately he began the uncontrolable hiccups, sweating and drooling. Since he could't speak I assumed this was hotter than what he was used to! :)

well, the scorpion sampling was pretty intense...totally different burn...very harsh, almost hurting type pain but not too intense to take...immediate...not delayed like the Bhut...made my tongue feel like a blacktop road in July...sweating under the eyes...on brow...eyes watering...nose running...burn in the top of the gut...those were some of the symptoms

from todays sampling, I have to say the Bhut is hotter...now, those were the first good pods off both plants...heat will probably vary as the season goes on...should get hotter if anything...

very nice, im cuttin up a bunch right now to toss in the excalibur... got a bad t-storm and it knock me plant over and broke it at the base of the stem !!!!. w/e i got some pods and some seeds :). i tasted it today, WOW.

I also love it when people want to "flex their muscles" when it comes to eating hot :) Tonight my father will bring some carribean red habanero with him to a party to let the others try it out for me :)

Great looking pods and I loved the fact that you made a co-worker go MIA. Did he ever show back up? I can't wait to do my own taste testing at work. That should be fun.

I saw him a few minutes ago down the hall...looks like I am going to have to go find him and ask if he is OK...I would hate to get fired with only 28 working days left before retirement...

Bwaahahaha! I always reserve the hottest part of a pepper for the 'macho man' in the group. People are starting wise up to me though. I'm running out of idiots around here - and I don't even have any super hots yet.

Don't worry about getting fired, you have plenty of witnesses.

Nice Pods AJ,
have you ever tried jolokia on a frozen pizza?
slice a fresh one like you would a nacho pepper and just spread out on the frozen pizza...then just cook the pizza...
wow! great taste and superb heat factor...
:hell:

it wont be long now aj...

Legalize It!!!

Beauties AJ. A couple of classic looking pods. Do you really think that the Scorpion might be hotter than the Bhut? Just ate my first ripe Scorpion today and just like with the Seven Pod, the pain in the throat and in the ears -- that's the worst!

Pepper tasting at work...good times!
