Hey everyone, I'm new to the whole pepper growing thing, in fact I just found out that I like gardening not too long ago. I'm a 20 year old college student and since I'm living in an apartment that has a north facing balcony, I'm growing peppers in my closet under artificial light. I'm just starting a seed collection, having joined the gardenweb forums, I found out how friendly pepper growers can be when it comes to trading seeds. I've managed to get like 4 varieties so far, and I'm working on collecting more. I have some fairly young plants(1 peruvian purple chile, and 1 Tam Jalapeno) under a few compact fluorescent lights, I'll post pics in another thread later. Just wanted to say hello :(
 
Why come out with all those peppers in there :)

Haha, with even more to come. I'm picking up a 4 tube 48" t8 fluorescent fixture in a few weeks, and I'm gonna supplement side lighting with some more CFLs. Stay tuned for lots of pics, hopefully some indoor nagas if i can get the seeds :)

Man, I've never had such a welcoming at a forum, I'm really starting to like this community a whole lot, I like the atmosphere, I've been here several days and I've yet to see one negative post lol. I guess its cause not many young kids are interested in peppers:hell:

Now, in english: welcome to the board. You wanna be careful with the closet thing: over here, the police go round in helicopters with infrared cameras to look for anomalous heat sources in peoples houses, then bust them for growing pot.

As opposed to here where I wave at the helicompter shinning its light on my pot plant and they just go away...

Haha i don't think a few compact fluorescent lights are gonna show up on an infrared camera, I have like 60 watts of light in my closet. And even if they did come, jalapenos, peruvian purple chiles, and dorset nagas aren't illegal in TX yet :) Haha, plus, if it was pot, I wouldn't have the helicopters to worry about. The apartments I live in are on campus and have drug dogs they bring around who would find that long before the 'copters would. Thanks for the warning though lol.
