Rockfish Seafood Grill - Hulen Street in West Fort Worth, Texas

Yesterday was Mrs. AJs birthday and she had the choice of where she wanted to go. Rockfish Seafood Grill was her choice. (GREAT CHOICE HONEY!!!) We had been there before so I pulled up the menu off the web and we decided what we would have before we ever got to the restaurant...

As you know, the heat we crave is not usually available at eating establishments for the general public so I was sure to bring my own "spicerupper" plus a little "care package" for the chef (Bhut, Fatalii, 7 Pot, Trinidad Congo (Red), and Congo Black purees)

Ryan is the chef...a young man with a desire to please with his food and service and does quite a good job of it...the service is splendid (read fast), the staff are friendly, the atmosphere is just right, and the restaurant built of stone is spotless...decor is "Texas" of course with a bronzed longhorn adorning the front lawn....

I would show more pictures, but the battery died after the first picture so that screwed the pooch...

First Off...Top Shelf Margaritas, rocks and salt for me, Mrs. AJ opted out of the salt...Great Margaritas....

Then for starters...I had the "Fire Island Shrimp" and Mrs. AJ had the "Mexican Shrimp Martini"....

Fire Island Shrimp (~30-40 count) - delicately battered and deep fried with sesame seeds served on a bed of lettuce and their garlic chili sauce made this shrimp almost melt in your mouth...the combination of flavors was excellent...

Mexican Shrimp Martini - A shrimp cocktail bathed in a creamy-like tomato base sauce that was spicy and flavorful. Little bits of onion, tomato, and avocado along with the 30-40 count shrimp was scrumptous and served tableside. A shot of tequilla was added in a martini shaker along with the cocktail combination which brought out the flavor. One of my favorites at this restaurant and difficult to copy at home. Chef Ryan explained later that the recipe takes up 2 sheets of paper which is why it was difficult for us to copy at home. A must have if you visit this restaurant. (Review by Mrs. AJ)

On to the soups.....I had the "Fishermans Soup" and Mrs. AJ had the "Roasted Jalapeno Cream"

Fishermans Soup - First time I have tried this but it worked well...carrot, potatos, and other veggies with chunks of a white flaky fish (didn't ask the name) in a light fish stock broth. Really a great tasting soup...scrumptious, but I had to add some spice to it...after that it was even more delicious...

Roasted Jalapeno Cream Soup - Another one of my favorites. Not real thick but creamy just the same. The heat was just enough to satisfy my taste buds with little bits of jalapeno and onion. Delicious. (Review by Mrs. AJ)

Now on to the main course...I had "The Full Moon" and Mrs. AJ had the "Mahi-Mahi"

The Full Moon - This is the large fried seafood platter most seafood places have (read Not From Frozen like Red Lobster). I was surprized at the portion of this plate and there was plenty to share with Mrs. AJ...all were rolled in and/or shaken in a spicy corn meal mixture (my favorite, I added more spice), then deep fat fried to deep golden crunchy crusty pieces of richeousness... ~6 (probably 20 count) butterflied shrimp , two nice "tail" pieces of Catfish, ~ 6 quarter ($.25) sized scallops that melted in my mouth, 2 jalapeno corn fritters that had a little kick to them, and all served on a bed of waffle fries...IMO this is "as good as it gets" folks...

Mahi-Mahi Blackened with Lemon-Butter sauce
- A nice sized plank of white fish blackened and served with confetti rice and sauted spinach. The rice was a bit salty for me, but the spinach was sauted perfectly; bright green baby spinach. The fish was succulant with a nice blackened crust and the lemon butter sauce brought out all the flavor of the meal. You can order any type fish and have it cooked to order, either blackened or grilled and with any type sauce you prefer. You can have it your way and I enjoyed it very much. (Reviewed by Mrs. AJ)

I have been going to seafood establishments here in Fort Worth for many years now and this is definitely one of my favorites...Mrs. AJ says, and I agree, the Mexican Shrimp Martini is one of the best tasting and most creative appetizers we have seen in a long time...

Definitely worth visiting....

Man I wish you camera hadn't died. I would have loved to see that platter. Glad you had a good time AJ and tell Mrs. AJ I said happy birthday.
