pests Pests ..need help with ID and Treatment

FadetoBlack and I are in similar climates and experiencing the same problems with our plants...

I just looked at one of my not too healthy plants and found these on the underside of leaves...until now I've only sprayed soapy water...

Just aphids. I'd recommend Neem oil as you don't have high infestation yet. It worked for me very well last year.
 
Those are aphids, the best treatment for them is to buy a bunch of ladybugs and let them devour the wicked little things.

I see very, very few Lady Bugs ever in South Florida.... I wonder if anyone has successfully introduced them here to control Aphids...

I was soaping some aphids on a year old Eggplant plant when I need find some (Black) Lady Bugs ..atleast that's what they looked like....I stopped the soap when I saw them since I think they are a beneficial ...

You need a very small leash.

Seriously though, I've read that you have to refrigerate them for about an hour to send them into a semi-dormancy period. Then mix up a diluted solution of coke and water. You then mist them with the solution to temporarily glue their shells together. They should be released at night time.
 
Are younger plants more susceptible to infestations than mature plants? Once you tackle these guys, and plants take off is it more smooth sailing??
 
BTW The (Black) Lady Bugs were some sort of destructive aphid I guess....they were actually attached to the Eggplant stems (like they were hanging on for dear life)....I cut the plant all the way back...we'll see....
 
Bossman, I found that most of my aphid problems happened when the plants were young but I have seen them on mature plants but not as bad.
The always go for nice new tender growth mostly on the undersides of new leaf shoots and blossoms.
 
Pests like aphids often attack dry, stressed, or weak plants first so it probably helps to not let things dry out, and keep tings healthy. I don't think it matters how old the plant is, they eat all they can get:(
