Super Hot Powder - Prices

I have only been lucky enough to have received some powders from very generous friends here on the forum. I only know of a couple places that sell powders:
Hippieseedcompany: $5.00 for 1/4 OZ, coming from OZ shipping is pricey. Might as well grab some sauces too!
pepperlover.com: $8.00 for 1/2 OZ
I am sure you saw awesome deal that WickedMojo posted earlier for bhut/smoked bhut powder:

1.5oz Bag of Regular or Smoked is $12.99 or 2 for $22 free shipping! for U.S customers
1/4 lb bag of either Regular or Smoked is $25 free shipping! for U.S customers
1/2 lb Bag of of Regular or Smoked is $45 free shipping! for U.S customers

I think WM's deal is prob the best, I believe he has some others too but you would have to ask him as I am not positive about that. If you dont mind me asking do you have an alternate source for powders or thinking of selling them?

this may not help, but if yoiu consider the weight loss of the pepper during dehydration...IMO the price for an ounce of powder should be the same as price per pound of fresh pods...

I think you misread AJs post Mojo. You're prices are very, very cheap.

AJ said 1LB fresh pods to 1oz of powder. That's 16 to 1.

You said 5 pounds fresh to 1 pound dried. That's only 5 to 1. :)

yeah your right I mistyped my math AND I misread it, so I get a double dunce cap. I thought he said the price per OUNCE should be the same for dry as fresh lol, Sorry AJ , I'm an idiot

I respectfully disagree. I think fresh pods should cost more than powders. Perhaps it's a function of timing, as well as supply and demand, but if you ask this question in February or March, I think you'll find people willing to pay more for fresh pods.

Tough call. The effort of processing and grinding deadly hot peppers merits some payoff. It's dangerous work! :) I do see your point though too.

after going through culinary classes and learning about costing and such.... when you take an raw product and let it go through a process, the process in itself incurs a cost. and each cost should be added onto the price to recoup the expense of said processing. and of course, the use of whatever device or manner of process incurs said cost due to depreciation..... and justifies the need for powders or dehydrating the stuff.

but of course everyone is free to think about it another way and charge more for fresh pods, especially if it's out of season and you're still selling fresh and ripe ones on the market.

depends on how you look at it.

i hope i made sense. lol.

Fresh is seasonal, perishable, more nutritious, does not ship well, and to me should be worth quite a bit more comparitively. Look at sun-dried tomatoes compared to fresh or most fresh herbs compared to dried.

Hey Chris I got my powderz mate. Thanks for putting your lungs at risk for me :D

when i was pricing mine last fall it seemed that about $10/oz was something of a going rate on this forum at least so that's what i went with.

For the record i think i paid about ~5.70 an ounce on the ones above. Not a bad deal at all!
That was at auction though and everyone is scairt of me at auctions

Nova, I was just about to e-mail you to see if you got the powder I sent. :) Awesome. Yeah, that was a hell of a deal you won on that auction. :) You need to teach me your auction approach for Ebay. lol. I hope you enjoy the pepper powder. Let me know what you think.

Chris
