Chile juice in the eye!

I was making up some chile mash and sauce yesterday. I got about 3kgs of hot birdseye pods (large) from the markets and had so many I didn't really know what to do with them all.

I made up several litres of sauce and around a litre of mash and unfortunately whilst making the mash I burned out the motor of my wife's blender ooops! anyway that's a different story.

with so many pods left over I bagged up a whole lot to freeze for later use. while washing/handling/sorting the pods I put aside the particularly good looking ripe pods for seed harvesting. naturally I was all gloved up to avoid any Hunan Hand or secondary burns to myself or the chilliwoman later on. about 15 mins into the seeding process I sliced a nice big fat pod down the centre and a big squirt of juice hit me fair in the eye. now I knew these pods were hot as I'd already consumed several (naturally) but to my surprise there was no burning - none at all

this made me think that this was one of those 'freak' mild pods. I took a bit out of it and it burned the **** out of me.

why is it so???

The only thing I can think of is the ph level of the pepper. Your eye's matural ph level is around 7.6.

It's like when you go swimming and your eyes burn. It's not the chlorine, but the ph level of the water.

The other day, I had cut up some chili peppers, but didn't think of it. After washing my hands, I must have touched my face, and my face burned something awfully fierce. I couldn't think of what happened, then it hit me,"I had cut up chili peppers," so I decided to put some milk on the skin and that did the trick.

Not only will it heat up your face but other parts of your anatomy as well....as I am sure others can attest.

Oh yes and not a good feeling at all....
I decided that since I like stuffed cherry peppers so much why not make them with Habeneros and enjoy that much more.....
First mistake I wasnt wearing gloves second the quantity of beer consumed .... what goes in most come out.... it was a slow burn may have been the beer but when it hit  absolutly nothing I can do but take the pain and pray that my little buddy comes back out from hiding around my large intestine.

Try getting sprayed in the eye with Pepper Spray. I am a police oficer so I had to have that done to me to be certified to carry it.

I once unknowingly picked up a bottle of Da Bomb - The Final Answer that had sweated. Then I touched my face.

Standing under a shower for 30 minutes almost helps.

:lol::shocked: I keep one handy and I've done that several times. Liquid soap neutralizes it. No water, except to rinse he soap off.:)

I had some Mega-Death residue on my hands the other day, because I accidentally got some on my hand. I thought I washed my hands good, BUT I didn't. I was taking a shower and went to rub the water off my face by my eye. The next few minutes I couldn't see and oddly it felt better after I washed my eyes with soap and water!!!:shocked: NORMALLY you try to keep soap out of your eye, but this was an exception. I'll remember to SCRUB my hands therally with soap and water next time.:)
