Whats this ? Naga Viper !!

I bought many super hot pepper seeds from chileseeds.co.uk but I do not have that lucky like you to get this seeds by mistake. My feeling is that this pepper is just another hype. Definitely I will buy this pepper seeds when it available. Let see how hot this pepper will be by next year.

The ones ive grown are very hot but then again im no expert on eating superhot Chillies i have tried the Bhut Jolokia and Red Seven pod just small pieces not whole pods and the viper was hotter than the Bhut and up there with the Seven. Is it hotter than the Sevens and Scorpions ect ill leave that for someone else to decide.How it will grow next season from this seasons seeds,well thats what makes growing and crossing Chillies so exciting in my opinion.

Couple more photos of the Viper taken today, it seems to produce quite a lot of large pods.Season nearly over now in the southwest of the UK for natural light greenhouse growig of Chillies i think next weekend will see the end

They look like trindad scorpions to me
I grew the same and they are not viper as seeds have not been released

On another note i grew ten differant hot chillis from chilliseeds.co.uk and germination and purity was excellant , top class

Dude all i was saying is there not Viper but scorpions, read the thread again and cant see where thats covered
I think you bought scorpion seeds and grew scorpion plants ?
 
Got to add the scorpion in my opionion is the king of the hot chilli
Big plants Lots of large fruit and very very hot

Great taste too
 
Okay if this is a true 3 way cross it would take 6 yrs or longer to create. Gerald has not even had seeds for Scorpions that far back. Now heat and dryness affect increase in pungency. This is what Bosland found out. Not saying Paul deliberately stressed plants. He did not have to. Growing in the Southwest will do it naturally. Take any pepper from the wet, humid rainy Caribbean and grow it in New Mexico and it will go up in heat. My friend Marlin just had a field of Chocolate habs (over 8,000 lbs) harvested and they average over 500,000 scovies. Wet and well fertilized peppers are happy peppers. And happy peppers have less pungency. So now we have Gerald who lives in cold and wet Cumbria, UK with a non-climate controlled greenhouse. And you really believe his peppers got this hot. And also say its just another Scorpion. I agree a lot of my Scorpion pods look just like it. Now heres something for all of you to chew on. I am working with Dave De Witt in testing all superhots and just for giggles other hots like Devil's Tongue and Red Fatalli. So who's doing the testing. Lets just say someone in the field of Capsaicin research that has more experience than Bosland. We are not playing around here. We want to know what is the hottest? is it Sr Strain? Douglah, Scorpion,Naga or Chocolate Bhut? Of maybe Jonah?? You will all see soon. By the way we will have a Third party verify our findings and this Third party will be another Institution that specializes in Capsaicin extraction and testing. Sorry but America has the best facilities and experience to do this research.I want the truth so does everyone else!
 
Well to make things even more interesting ive this season crossed the so called Naga Viper with a Seven Pod Jonah, cant wait to see how it grows out.
 
Crossing an unstable hybrid is just going to make the gene pool a whole lot larger. You're going to have a lot of phenotypes to chose from for many many years. This would be like 4 crosses for this pepper in only a couple of years :( I just don't see the point but good luck.
 
Of course even a Bhut is a mixed strain that has stablized. It's mostly some chinense species mixed with some frutescens that eventually became a cultivar. But who know how long that took to happen.
 
The Bhut/Naga genes were likely originally brought to India from Trinidad in 1845- 1854, and I'd guess they were growing in Trinidad long before that as "Devil peppers" or Scorpions and/or 7-pods. There is also talk about the fatalii being an original "parent"
It seems to me the viper's three parents are all quite closely related :)
 
Well Gerald Fowler is featured on an article on yahoo this morning, same old same old but at least they admit the pictured pepper is a bhut jolokia. Someone is DEFINITELY getting a lot of mileage out of the claims of a naga viper.
