Hi from Japan

Been reading the forums for a while and finally registered. This is a great site, lots of good information.

This is my second year growing, however my first year wasn't at all successful as I couldn't get any seeds to germinate.
This year I sourced a few varities of seedlings and things seem to be going well. I'm trying to germinate seeds as well, but as yet no luck.


Look forward to getting to know you all, and picking your brains.

DevilDuck, I've been in Osaka for about 8 years.

Cap'n Bones, I hope I can get some of those Thai ornamentals to fruit properly so that I can have teh same experience you had last year.

POTAWIE, I don't have any experience with growing wasabi.

I grew a plant two years ago from Japan that was labeled "Shi Shi To" and it was very much on the sweet side (small and wrinkled with about 1,000 SHU of heat). The tag said it was used in stir fry dishes in Japan. Ever hear of this or know what Shi Shi To translates to?
 
imaguitargod, the "tou" in "shishitou" comes from "tougarashi" which is japanese for chili or pepper. "shishi" means lion although it's generally only used when talking about Leo in the zodiac, not to refer to your everyday lion.

Welcome glad to have you back in the 70's I was homeported in Yokosuka. Loved Every minute that I was in country.

I've not had the priveledge yet of going to Japan, but I really, really want to.

A friend of mine had his honeymoon there, and went looking around some Anime video stores as he's a big big fan. He was checking out, like Gundam Wing rareties or something, and his wife says "So, you're into all this are you?" "Oh yeah" "Well, I think it's disgusting"

"WHAT?!?!" he's getting worries and runs over to where she is.

She's in the animated porn wing, and was convinced the whole shop was selling that kind of thing. He had to put her right. :bday:
