My first plant, what is it?

hi, i'm new here. i started growing a chilli plant about 6 months ago and now it's got its first full sized chilli which i can't wait to try. only problem is, i dont know what it's called...

i got the seed from a friend's plant and he doesn't know what it is either, all he knows is the chillis are really hot.

so would anyone here be able to identify it? also, how do you know when the chillis are ready for eaten? the biggest one hasn't grown much in the last 2 or 3 days.

Looks like a bigjim or some sort of anaheim but they are usually mild.

Give the pepper a slight twist, and if it falls off with ease then it's ready.

That's because it's not ripe yet

That looks to be a Hungarian Wax chili.

hm, i googled that and none of the pictures look like mine. i didn't see any dark green hungarian wax chilis. i'm pretty sure these stay green

All peppers ripen to a color other than green, the only time you'll find a green pepper is when it is unripened. I was a little off on the name, it's full name is Hungarian Hot Wax.

theres a really good chili database at http://thechiliman.org/ , have a look on there, it might give you an idea of the different types of species that there are... I cant be anymore help as I've only just started myself but i found that website really useful..good luck

Ya, that's our own forum member's site (Mark, aka Dolarchiliman (sp?). We ALL have found his site useful.

BTW, he makes this really good sauce called Naga Snake Bite...be sure to pick up the 10 pod edition

Right, I'm definately on a bottle of that sauce,, its BBQ season coming up here in the UK and some Naga sauce would be ideal :onfire:
