hot-sauce Start with one hot sauce...

The first hot sauce in my fridge was Dave's Gourmet Insanity.

That was purchased not all that long ago, but since that first purchase I've stayed away from extract sauces in favor of the non-extract hot sauces.

And there are good hot sauces with decent heat out there, with some of these sauces, shown in the pic below, being made with Bhut Jolokia, Naga Jolokia, Yellow 7 Pods, Trinidad Scorpions, but most of my sauces were made with the ubiquitous Habanero.

I've purcased hot sauces in local stores, but mostly they've come my way from online purchases.

Here are most of them. Some others were left with friends and family so I could use them there in future visits.

Thanks to this forum, I was able to order product from some of the forum members here: Brian with Knepper's Peppers, Neil at THSC and Johnny and Nicole from Heartbreakingdawns.

And my parents just got back from Mexico and they brought us back six hot sauces to add to the evergrowing assortment of sauces.

I'm sure that some of you here have much more extensive hot sauce collections, but I was surprised to find how easily these sauces seem to breed like rabbits once ya start with 'em and are now taking up a fair bit of shelf space in our fridge.

But my wife hasn't complained yet. ;)

thats a great selection ya have there, when you say collection do you plan on saving the empty bottles ?
whats your opinion of " the ghost " sauce ? I recently bought it but havent opened it yet.

You have a good woman if she tolerates them all.....unless she too loves hot stuff, then you have a great woman.

Very nice collection there Dvg!

Thank you Wayright. With the help of some THP members, I've also been able to add some very good hot pepper powders to our kitchen as well. ;)

Thanks Chilehunter. When I say collection, I'm using the term loosely. I don't plan on keeping the empty bottles, unless I can put something into them again later.

The Ghost sauce is good, but the Bhut Jolokia flavor is quite strong. I actually prefer the Addiction and Melinda's that are both made with Naga Jolokia more, in terms of flavor, with the Addiction being my favorite among the three of them.

Which one is your favorite and why?
How about a demo?

My favorite is still the Acid Rain by Hatari Bros.

It has decent heat, but the flavor is unique among all of the other sauces I've tried.

Acid Rain has a taste reminiscent of a good and tasty pizza sauce, at least for me it does, anyway.

I'd consider doing a demo, but my dial up connection is slower than molasses in early February. ;)

She is no doubt a great women, just alone for tolerating me.

She isn't as crazy about the hot stuff as I am, but she does like to try small samples of everthing new I bring into the house.

I've been slowly coaxing and converting her, friends and family over to the warmer cuisine choices. ;)

Hmmm, this post got me thinking. All things considered, a woman doesn't need to love hot stuff to be a great woman. Considering The Defcon Wife Unit doesn't do spicy food, she is still a Great Woman for putting up with my dumbass for these many years.

After posting that I realized I have a great woman and all she does is put up with me and stand behind me. I guess I should edit that since she is just now getting used to living with fire lips after I kiss her.

After reading the last two posts, I've realized why I'm divorced......

You guys took the only two viable sane women on the planet.

I have to laugh at my wife sometimes.

She doesn't like to be left out, so when she sees me eating something, she likes to at least try a little taste too.

Last night for supper we had chicken breasts along with a veggie stir fry.

For my chicken breast, I smeared on a good coating of Yellow 7 Turkey Slap onto it and then sprinkled some of Pepperlover's Trinidad Volcano onto my stir fried veggies.

My wife has a very healthy respect for the Trinidad Volcano pepper powder because she has tried it and knows just how hot it is.

(Sidenote on the Trinidad Volcano powder: We were mixing it into Caesars during the Superbowl, and were actually surprised how much powder could be put into the drink without scorching us, versus putting just a bit of it on a carrot. The TV powder really spiced up the drinks nicely.)

But she was curious about the Yellow 7 Turkey Slap hot sauce.

So I told her, "Just take one drop of it and mix it in with your food".

Well she poured it out of the bottle and got about three drops of it on her plate.

So I said, "Be careful with that. You might want to mix that in with all of your food", just to dilute it I was thinking.

But no, she decided to take a piece of broccoli on her fork and dip it into the Y7TS and get about half of the sauce with it.

She pops it into her mouth, chews twice, and then says "Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot".

She couldn't drink milk because she had just started an exercise/diet regimen where she eliminates certain foods from her diet, and then gradually adds them back in over a six week peiod.

And this week, dairy wasn't on her diet plan.

But she didn't complain, other than noticing the heat in the Y7TS and actually is quite a trooper when it comes to sampling hot sauces. She doesn't take much, but she does like to taste test them.

Yea my wife doesnt do hot either, but I made a bunch of wings Sunday, without sauce so the family can enjoy. Well I see my wife had put some of my wing sauce on hers!!!I told her that I would eat it for her, cause she would cry..but she tried it anyway and liked it! but, never had a second one ;)

You have to give her credit for eating one, but then she probably didn't want to make too much of a fuss and have to admit that it was too hot.

My first sauce was Tennessee Hot Habanero.

I am buying two or three bottles a week at the moment - its going to get out of hand before long!

Best food stealing deterent in my book - I can get another beer, talk on the phone, etc... and come back and all my food is in the same place I left it.

LOL I remember once I went to a houseparty at Uni where we got onto doing food bets.

The guy bet me I couldnt drink a whole medium bottle of Tabasco Sauce - easiest £20 I'll ever make.

Then, in an attempt to win his money back, the host busted out a Absolut bottle of vodka that he had put the best part of a solid fistful of mixed Scotch Bonnets and Thai Bird's Eyes - there was more chillis in there than vodka. His mate had just shot a shooter of this stuff and almost died with the heat. He bet me £40 I couldnt down four shots of it (rules were no grimacing, no faces and no puking). Again, took his money but jeez - it was hotter than hell and I was in all kinds of trouble afterwards.

Then he bet me another £40 I couldnt eat half a tin of dog food - i declined that one. LOL
