Pro-Mix plants light green

I am a little confused as to why my potted plants that are in Pro-Mix are all a light shade of green and yellowing at the bottom and my potted plants that are in plain top soil are a nice shade of dark green as are my peppers that are in the garden. They all get watered only if the leaves start to wilt and we have not had any rain in over a month so I do not believe that they can possibly be over-watered. Also they are all getting fertilized at the same time and with the same dose, about every 14 days. My guess is that the Pro-Mix is needing to be fertilized more often. Could this be possible? any thoughts?

Sounds like the Pro-Mix plants have too much food. Try mixing in a little topsoil and see what happens.

The plants might be getting to many nutrients from their roots and not using their leaves for getting nutrients from the sun.

What do you use for fertilizer?
Pro-mix has no or very little fertilizer so what ever you give them is the only food they get.
In the garden and in top soil they get the dose of fertilizer plus what ever is in the soil.
