smokers big green eggs?

my mom and i were just sitting through a power outage having a beer...they finally got the power back on.. we were talking about grilling and other food. i mentioned that i wanted to get a smoker someday, and she said they (my parents) have one that my dad never uses that i could have, but also this "big green egg" grill/smoker. i had never heard of one before and read a little on their website. it sounds pretty good..though kind of expensive.

anyone used one before or have an idea of how it would compare to a regular smoker? i've never smoked anything before..so i'm kinda itching to try it as soon as i can get ahold of a smoker.

The big green egg is awesome. I've never used one yet but its like a porcelain air-tight stove. You can adjust exactly how much air comes in so little wasted heat/smoke. I've seen people cook everything from pizza to brisket, always done perfectly. The only problem with them is if you had to buy one they are over $1000.00

hmm sounds good...yea they aren't cheap. the XL size was just under 1000 on the first (and only site) i checked. but there are smaller sizes available for less. i haven't compared the price to other good smoker/grills. will be some time till i'm living somewhere that i could buy one anyway.

hah i couldn't imagine cooking pizza on a grill. i guess it would work out fine though.

I've seen them do bacon and eggs on it. Should try some green eggs and ham! I've seen other forums on the net dedicated to the green egg so there are lots of happy customers out there.

Supposed to be one of the best --- I wouldnt kick it out of my bed ...er uh... yard yea thats it ...
and for free damnnnnnnnnnnnnn

My mother in law has one and I have used it. The temp and air control are awesome. I would personally prefer a design with less direct heat ability, but the thing is great for what it is. It also retained moisture really well.

thats cool & all that she'd give you that smoker/grill BUT was this ever run by your dad ? he might have a different thought about that when it comes to giving away his $1000 grill/smoker  & you know how men are when it comes to grilling or smoking ;)
he might of bought it for when the other one gets wornout ?

me personally I couldnt accept that gift of a brand new $1000 grill/smoker I'd say I'll take the old one off your hands & you keep that new one. but then again thats me.

but anyways  & if you get that green egg show us what you grilled or smoked up so we can drool.

ahh sorry, i must've been a bit ambiguous with the wording..we were talking about grilling/smoking and i mentioned i wanted to get a smoker. she said that they had one my dad bought a while ago (not an egg) and he never really uses it. she said i could have that one if i wanted, then asked me if i had ever heard of the eggs...which i hadn't. once the power was back on, we looked them up online and i figured i'd ask you all if any of you had any experience with them since the website made some pretty bold claims.

maybe once i get my own place somewhere, i'll try and pick up one of the medium ones.
