I grow a few Gingers, normally I would grow in the ground but something loves digging it up, so they're recovering in the shade house at the moment.
I put it in the ground in very early spring, forget about it for a year then harvest replant, repeat.

Also, there's a "growing other" section under "growing hot peppers" which this topic might better fit.

I have grown ginger in regular flower pots for years. Normal potting soil works great. It is a neat looking plant, plus you get fresh ginger anytime you want it. I plant fresh bulbs that exhibit a lot of sprout bumps.

I threw pieces of ginger root into a pot this past spring and basically forgot about them, and still got a decent harvest... they were quite root bound though, and I think I'll put them in the ground next year as it didn't really do anything to extend the season, at least for me.

Certainly easier than growing Galanga root or Finger root or other ginger relatives...

i am growing in a pot 1st time this year. my process is simple:
1) buy ginger root from grocery store which has some already growing bulbs in it
2) prepare well drained soil in a container and plant the ginger root let's say 1-2 inch deep into soil
3)water soil well
4) keep it in a place where not direct sunlight but shady place
5) keep the plant away from frost or windy place

good luck on growing ginger

I am growing 3 rizomes this year. Got them from local supermarket for eating. I noticed they were showing growth bumps. Anyhow being stingy i am i cut out the bumps deeply and threw them in some soil in a large pot. And now their growing beautifully.

Here's my first attempt this season. This was taken few weeks back so i have another few sprouted since them.
