My 10 year old is responsible for the artwork on the cups!

That is a mighty small Tepin... but with Tepins size doesn't matter so much, they'll still light your face up. I guess I never realized how much of a variation on pod size there was with Tepins, from that little guy to Pequin-sized and everything in between.

Still waiting on my strange tepin with horizontal pods to set more... birds have made it difficult to taste any. I'm afraid for next year, I'm finding I like all of the really small-podded and wild varieties best, which means I'll have my work cut out for me for harvesting...

Was hoping that just the first few were going to be a little undersized...turns out this one was one of the largest ones on the plant! Oh well they're loading up and my Pequins are 3x normal size. Think they may be crossed with some sort of chinense. They have kinda blocky heavily wrinkled pods??? Will have to wait till I can pop a handful and see if I get any chinense flavor with it...

Here are a couple more pics from today

Goccia D'Oro flower...HUGE!

P1010554.jpg

Found this mean looking little guy by accident while re-routing some of the drip lines. Devil's Tongue Brown...In-ground plant.

P1010555.jpg

Big Jims are still loading up...going to be a bumper crop of these dudes! Can't wait for some spicy Rellenos!

P1010556.jpg

Another accidental discovery! In-ground Purple Bhut gnarly little pod!

More new ones to show, but I am gonna wait 'till the weekend. Getting pretty busy around here! Been struggling to finish up this damn retirement gift and neglecting the garden. Did finally get around to feeding the container plants. Might be putting in another raised bed this weekend to make some room for a few stragglers and recovery plants...or maybe not???

Hope you all are having as much fun as I am!
Shane

Nice! Lookin awesome pod formation. Your plants have really kicked it into high gear. and i say you can never have to many raised beds or places for your plants!

My Goccia D'oro will not set a fruit. No matter how much I finger bang it's flowers it just won't set. :P

Anyways man things are looking good keep up the great work and thanks again for the seeds.

Mine dropped its first round of flowers as well....if nothing sets this round I will try cross pollinating them with either my Big Jims or Poblanos.

I just might do that too. I have a Poblano right next to it in the garden and its also been slacking of fruit sets.

 Just one that's all I ask is just one HUGE harvest of Goccia D'oro and Poblanos. That's it nothing big just HUGE!!!

very nice photos and pods

Nice update, Shane. You are starting to come into the really fun
time for gardening, when the hardest work is over, and the
harvesting and oogling begins! Those Big Jims do look tasty;
how do they compare to Poblanos?

That tepin is the smallest pepper I've ever seen! I bet it was still hot and packed with seeds. I've noticed with a lot of those smaller peppers they always have a million seeds in them despite their size.

The El Grande Pequin!
My pequins are pretty huge...my tepins are small but energetic!

Good pretty handy with that camera my man! The stem on that purple bhut just blows me away :onfire:
Thanks broham! I try...kinda hard with the auto-focus on the little point and shoot camera I use. Does a pretty good job when I can get it to focus on what I am trying to take the pic of, but most of the time I have to trick it a little.
Those purple plants was one of the better decisions I made this year. Hope they taste good, Mixed reviews from others who have tried them. Say it tastes like a chinense/annuum cross and not a super...sounds great to me! The pods are pretty small, but would probably make great little poppers! I have been really close to snatching one of the bigger ones off and trying it, but have resisted so far.

Its all been fun so far! The stage between first flowers and pods was a little frustrating on some varieties...heck I have a couple manzano trees now covered in flowers, but the only pod I have is on one of the new ones I bought??? Maybe the soil is a bit too rich???

Really small! and some will ripen about half that size! They are smaller than my son's airsoft bb's...If I can get enough of them I'll just throw them in a bowl to dry and straight into a pepper mill to grind direct on food. I ate that one right after the pic and it was :hot:  A handful of those babies would definitely put you in the hurt locker! Cool plants too...a deep rich green and sprawling low grower...almost vinelike. I have one in one of my big military containers with 5 other plants and it will eventually be spilling over all 4 sides and through the other plants. Didn't check seed count, but I'm sure there were plenty in there.

man, really nice harvest you got goin on. keep up the good work!
My harvests are picking up, but the FL growers still got me jealous! Things are getting interesting for sure.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, will try to catch up on your grows in a bit...for now burger grilling time!

Almost forgot to answer this one! They have a taste more similar to an Anaheim, but much spicier. They're a New Mexico style green chile with heat about like a pretty good Jalapeno. Good for roasting and putting a big slab on a burger or chicken breast sandwich or for stuffing as big Rellenos. They also make the best chile con queso ever! I lived in El Paso for a while and still have family there so I get a couple gallons of roasted, peeled and frozen pods from them each year. Another variety I think is right up your alley! I have never grown them myself until now, and I must say they are some very impressive plants. Extremely fast growing and look like they're going to put out even more pods than my Poblanos. Check your local Homey Depot that's where I found mine.

Thanks, Shane. i'll have to consider those for next year. Your description
has me hungry although we had dinner already!

I'll +1 that... My Big Jim Heritage is equally impressive... It's almost three feet tall and IS over three feet wide. The side branching is nearly as tall as the main stem and it's COVERED in buds that should start flowering in the next few days. If this beast sets fruit from most of the flowers I should get a bucket full from each plant easily. I understand the improved Numex Heritage variety has the more consistent heat. If you get the older variety, the pods heat level varies with how high they grow on the plant. You can buy the seeds directly from the UNM website or Sandia Seed Co. in New Mexico.

Nice looking pics as always Shane. Wow, that Goccia d'Oro flower must be over an inch across. Happy harvesting... I'll be interested to see what you cook with it. Cheers

Say the word and seeds are yours my friend!

Thanks! I believe mine to be a herritage also?!?!?! Will have to check once I get back home...this whole Navy thing's got me neglecting my garden!

Not pepper related and may get me a warning point, but I'm proud of it and have never really been able to show off any of my wood work so...

Here's another retirement gift I made...but now the guy won't retire! lol

...and to make the post legit,

I rescued this poor little :Burning Bush from the nursery. I tried to explain that they were overwatering...this was the best looking plant in this variety. All their chinenses were doing very poor with the exception of a brand new flat of Bhuts, and I'm sure they'll look the same the next time I go in there. The guy was also trying to tell me that the Devils Tongue was the hottest pepper in the world. I tried to explain that the Douglah, Chocolate Bhut and Barrackpore they had on the same shelf were hotter, but he wasn't hearing it! "Nope I googled it and this is the hottest one!" Was cool they had such a selection of supers, too bad they're killing them all. They also had some Ristra Cayennes that looked like cool plants but they were in really poor shape, They all had 10+ inch long pods on them though. Wasn's sure I could nurse them back to health.

Will update more when I can!
Shane

Shane, it's so cool you have a nursery that even stocks those kinds
of plants. We get pretty slim pickins here, but I notice that HD stocks
more varieties than they used to. Unfortunately they aren't put out
until now, so it's a bit late for this climate.

You have mad woodworking skills, my friend. I'd retire again for a helm
like that Haha ;)
Hope you are able to put the Navy in its place and get back to pepper gardening!
