I am planting via 2 methods, coffee filter and direct sow. I want to eventually plant out 1 of each variety so I sowed 3 seeds. I soaked my seeds last night in water and planted 1 in a tray of Hoffman’s Seed Starter (thanks Ronnie),
fe6e7491.jpg

and the other two I stuck in coffee filters and plastic bags. So EVERYONE is aware, this method is not a quick one. Consider yourself warned.

When I finished planting/bagging everything, I stuck it in my tent which maintains about 81-84 and we shall keep our fingers crossed.

Now it is time to PWN some 12 year olds in MW3. Peace!

Trying to play catch up with the glogs... Once again, you're doing amazing work Matt! The size of those pods you hold up in the vids, or photograph later is impressive! Looking amazing. I was looking at your harvest pictures and remembering how you got off to a rough start this year. You would never know it by your harvest. Great work! Nice critter pic as well.

Thanks a ton Andy! I know what it is like trying to play catch up...never easy. I think that the fact the plants are in the ground play the biggest part to their size. Pretty much everything is super-sized, except for the Naga Morich pods. But funny thing about that is tonight I tasted one and it was smokin!

It is pretty crazy, if you would have told me that I would be pulling harvests like this when I was having all the problems, I would have told you to go fly a kite!

Just had a ginormo harvest, so Ill be back a bit later with some responses and pics. But here is the Red Scorpanero#2 Pod Review for ya'll to chew on.

So I had a request for this one and I told you I would bust it out, so here is the Red Scorpanero#2. I wasn't going to let myself get taken by surprise again by one of Joe's creations, so I prepared myself for this one. It was pretty damn hot to say the least. I was waiting for it to kick me in the teeth, and it was definitely up there.

On taste. Fruitier than most TS pods I have encountered. Although it was fruity, it was more dull than BAM in your face. It had a thick skin, and the flavor lingered, albeit subtly, throughout the whole experience.

On heat. This was a hot one. I spoke a bit about how when you cross, you can expect a bit of dropoff based on the milder pepper you use, well this one had some pretty gnarly heat to it even though it was crossed with a Hab. The heat took about 10 to 20 seconds before it hit, but then it built for another 3 minutes or so before it peaked. It was a 100% mouth burn, with concentration on the tongue (both top and bottom) and lips. No pain to the throat or stomach.

In the end, it is a great producer and a great looking pod. My plant has at least 30 pods hanging off of it, and they are all pretty uniform. Also, c'mon, it is a dollar for seeds from Joe....can't beat that!

loved Loved Loved. The review.. and stop knocking us alchy's.. beer goes good with everything......The review was great. Very crunchy pod  Keep up the reviews  love um

lmfaooo he said not gonna drink every night and become an achy... your so jaded ugh.. come to the dark side my brotha

Looking good Matt. Lotsa heat there.

The Fatalii/Red Savina(f2), with the Fatalii-like phenotype, I have growing here had it's first ripen.....yellow!!!!! Let me know if yours with that phenotype goes yellow. Seth came over and we tried it. Tasted like a Fatalii with a little Red Savina on the edge. WIN! Am isolating.

Thanks for poppin in! I would love to drink as much as I think I should (as I sip a few fingers of Jameson), but I am up all night with a tying baby trying to get him to sleep through the night...maybe one day I can join y'all!

Let em stay a bit longer and they should turn Orange. I haven't popped one yet, I want to see if they will go all the way red. But I think I will pull one off the plant tomorrow and see how it tastes.

Thanks for stopping in! I am still gonna try to isolate a few, i just hope I am around long enough to get a few ripe isolated pods.

Enjoy that baby.. trust me time goes by to fast. I enjoy my beers because I have a 21 yr old and a 14 year old .... time goes too fast. and I can only still enjoy the occasional cold one.. 14 yr olds are more demanding than that sweet baby you have.. oh brother.. whats to come. But its all joyous so enjoy

I know true fatalii's go an almost orange when reallllly ripe, but I ill have to let some on longer.
Brian,
I've got 3 plants growing from seeds I scrounged out of red pods you sent me (Fat/Sav x)Two of my plants are putting out yellow pods....while the 3rd is producing the longer shaped Red Fatalii pods.......hmm......an "Orange Fatina" sauce .......perhaps?

Greg,
After looking back I remembered I had 13 of them in that front bed and then one true Fatalii coming up on the one side, so I am assuming there was a back cross. Threw me for a loop. Have you compared a yellow one to a true Fatalii in taste yet?

One day! Thanks for given me something to look forward to!!

Yea, I thought they were gonna stay yellow, but I missed one or two pods on my first harvest and noticed they were going all the way orange. My 7 pot yellows are going orange as well.

And Greg...I would be first in line for some "OF" sauce!

I am still building my stock up, and tonight I noticed I had just about the most perfect 7 Pot Infinity hanging, and perfectly ripe. Then I saw another! Couldn't resist!

When I cut it open, the STEM was even leaking! DRIPPING oil!

The seeds came out in a nice cluster. This makes it SOOOO much easier to harvest.
fd1118ef.jpg

And since I split it open...might as well take a bite, or a portion!
05a485d9.jpg

It didn't have too much flavor, but I think that it was definitely because there was so much oil. It was pretty strong Chinense flavor, and I think it would just get stronger with more of the pod. The heat was stupid hot on my lips (Brandon's Favorite :)). I had a lot of tongue burn, but it wasn't as bad in as the lips. It lasted about 10 minutes or so, and definitely smoking! The plant isn't much of a producer, so I am gonna savor the pods. Maybe dry and powder them and add it to something that needs just a little kick.

And the harvest!

Matt you're getting some sweet looking Pods man. Can't wait to see more. Finishing my move tomorrow and then it time to start all over again. I'm actually pretty excited to plot out where my brother and I are going to grow next season.

Can't wait for move pod reviews too. Keep'em coming.

[background=rgb(255, 244, 228)]Suck on the seeds to clean em [/background] :D
Here we go:

1. I think the heat was related to the size of that one-that was a big boy.Another fine review...I've been very lucky this trip- the videos are loading occaissionally . Pepper genetics I really can't speak on -
but it really usually depends on dominant/recessive traits-more often than not though I agree the lesser of 2 evils degrades the heat level...but if the pod produces more oil-oh hell who knows?!!!
2. I get a beer out with every pod that goes down when I'm home-no buts about it.They go together    , but they also go down only with food. Several years back, I partially detached my esophagus when I experienced an unanticipated loud, sudden increase in ambient pressures in my immediate locale, due to circumstances beyond my control(collapsing both lungs as well-mouth wasn't open!)-it has long since healed, but- the sensation in my guts after eating a Brown 7 mimiced the sensation almost EXACTLY-I was out here, and had eaten it with 2 sausage patties after a cup of coffee. I did actually curl up in the rack for about ten minutes, went back to the galley and followed up with plain wheat bread and milk-4-5 tums, and hit the rackj again -your treble hook description hit the mark perfectly-I did not relax until the feeling started ebbing...ok it was just the power of the Brown.A pepper has never done that before to nearly such an extreme.I laugh at myself for it now-but ...well-you get the point-I know how you hate to read!I won't break my rule again though-pod testing only with a meal!Spooky for a while though..
3. Spices comment about it resembling a Brain- I think anything with a lot of red 7 genes can throw a few pods that look like that....lotta similarities with Primo's/Infinities as well...only a geneticist could really KNOW.
4. Hey wait....didn't you cut open that Infinity..........? ;)
A pleasure as always...Have a good un-
Dave
PS....Pia, he DOES drink a beer every night ...its in his glogs!!!!!..I do too, ...cept for out here!

infinity looks a lot like a brain strain... what do you think?

My take on this is that they are definitely different. I think that the Brain Strain (at least the "original Cappy B.S.") is stable. The Infinity on the other hand is not. I bet that they are mutations or natural crosses off of the original 7 Pot, or the 7 Pot SR as some will call it, and Cappy was just better at selective breeding than the Nick. He [Cappy] spent a lot of time hand selecting pods and saving seeds to get the typical "brain" look to them, but Nick must have just made a quick run a Guinness to get his pod in the book. I say this because the pods hanging off my Infinity (which I got from Wouter who is very good at isolating) are not uniform by any stretch of the imagination. i have elongated pods brain looking pods, and a mixture of the two. As far as heat level and overall taste, they are similar, but not the same in my opinion.

Thanks again Matt
Great review about the Infinity the interior looks amazing

No problem Fernando! That thing was pretty mean.

That is such a fun thing. I love the planning almost as much as the growing. You pull out the computers, paper, pencils, rulers, and start to draw and mark out where everything will go....and then come plant out it all changes!! My recommendation is you go in the ground and all organic. It has made all the difference in my plants.

Suck on the seeds to clean em :D

 Definitely gonna give that a try!

Damn, I thought I hurt when I ate peppers! I am battling a jonah as I type right now...vid to follow , and it is playing footsie with my stomach. Not enough to make me wanna hurl, but enough to let me know I made the mistake of eating it! And yes, there were beers involved this evening Pia.

As I mentioned above, I played a game with the 7 Pot Jonah this evening. Damn, I wish I would have passed....Video is uploading, it will be up by morning.

Damn it!!! I typed out a long drawn out response to both you and Dave's description of the Infinity only to lose it to military internet.

Basically don't eff with the Infinity...Dave's started really sweet out the gate and ended at OMFG WTF did I just do?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Those babies really bring the pain train. The one he sent looked nothing like a Brain...or even a Primo...somewhere in the middle. Weird little tail and large lobed body. Great job on the review! Can't wait to see you eat one! Hope you and Jonah can come to terms without too much trouble!

http://youtu.be/B5C9TPlq3CM

May not be doing these things much longer....writhing in pain for a good hour and begging to die an hour AFTER you eat a pod is no bueno...

This was dumb. Yea, I said it, this was stupidly dumb. The 7 Pot Jonah is not a pepper to review lightly. This thing was stupid hot and I am still pissed I decided to do it!

On Flavor. I really don't know, I spent the whole time thinking I was going to die. If I had to pinpoint something about it before the nightmare, it would be a strong Chinense flavor, more on the fruity side.

On Heat. Yea. Exactly. Once my personal hell started, I realized what I did. This thing took me for a ride, and I was extremely close to trying to jump off early. The heat concentrated in the mouth, but it messed up my whole body. It was almost like a panic, I was freaked out that it would never stop. I had to ride it out for a good 10 minutes before I was really ok and realized I wasn't on the fast track to golden streets and pearly gates. No typical throat burn, but it felt like my mouth was actually burned, as in hot soup burned. The roof of my mouth and tongue were hit the worst.

Everything else. The plant is a killer producer, and is good size. I would definitely grow this thing if I had room, or if I didn't . A must grow in my book not only for heat level, but for production and overall awesomeness. Yes, I just said awesomeness.
