fresh peppers

I live in the Northwest where peppers are not easy to grow and I would like the name and location of a dealer where I could buy fresh peppers. The one I would really like to find is the de arbol.

I sympathize. Sorry to hear it. I don't know of any sources to recommend, but I do know that many members of this site as far north as connecticut and even into canada grow their own peppers. You may be too mountainous, or just not have the space to start them indoors, but there really is no substitute for pulling them off of your own plant. There is likely a way to do it! If you want advice on how to grow in cooler climates, you will be buried in good advice from the good people here.

cross country

Pam mentioned cross country as a possible source for the pepper that I would like to get, unfortunately I need to find out where it is.

you know it would help out if you told people the general location where you live vs just saying the NW :) but for a general online USA location yea checkout CCN (cross country nurseries)

Allow me to explain. I am new to this pepper thing. I have been using hot sauces for 10 or 12 years but have just got into hot peppers. In trying to find some semblance of variety I am being told by people that peppers are hard to grow here (Washington). My next store neighbors are Mexican and even they can't seem to tell me where I can get fresh.

no hot peppers

eremite if a mexican told you he does not know where to find fresh peppers, he must be new. try going to outside flea markets :mouthonfire:

flea markets are a good source for finding veggies (chiles & whatnot)
check other local ethnic stores for dried chiles, I'm sure a mexican store would have dried De Arbols, finding a CERTAIN fresh chile can be hard to find, CCN is a good place to look, what about some other kind of chile ? if you want those (De Arbols) fresh often then I'd say you best be growing them to insure you'll be getting fresh pods.

I personally have not seen 'fresh' chile de arbol. I have however use them and seen them as they normally come, dried. There must not be a decent, or any for that matter, Mexican store in the Washington area where eremite resides. A large supermarket like Winco Foods, Albertsons, etc. carry chile de arbol on their produce section or, like Winco in my area now does, on the Mexican specialty food aisle, in the little clear packets, just like Mexican spices.

As far as fresh peppers, it depends on the type you are looking for. Specialty, exotic, or hybrid peepers, good luck finding them on grocery stores. Some of the other suggestions on this thread may help. Most grocery stores however have the most common fresh peppers around like jalapeƱos, yellow peppers, serrano peppers, and 2 or 3 different kind of habaneros.

Good luck.
