1/23/12 After 3 days of neglect while I was out of town. Tray sat on a table near south facing window. Not what they needed but it kept them alive. I used my 15 minutes of free time for the week and hung a light for them.

Nice, my only problem would be seperating them, I wouldn't wanna take the chance of killing conjoined twins....

I will snip them with scissors..... Only problem I see with multiple seeds per cell is seeds rotting if they don't germinate. You can learn something everyday... This might teach people how not to do it. Hah

I've had good luck separating twins and triplets by placing them in a container of water and wiggling them back and forth. You lose all the dirt, but the roots separate with much less tearing than simply pulling the plants apart.

Your germination rate looks great!

Wow J.B.

Nice job with the seeds, excellent germination rate. If you need to keep more than one sprout from an insert you can easily separate at the right time. Place the plug under slow running water in a utility sink, perhaps over a 5gal bucket to pervent dirt from entering the pipes and just tease the roots until they become separated.
If you don't need the additional sprouts, as stated in a previous post just cut the extras with the scissors. Do it early so you don't have uncessary roots in the cell.

"15 min of free time".............that use to be half time during a football game!......lol
I know what you mean, work, work and then come home to do more work.

Glad to hear you have the light hooked up for the plants.

later,
Greg

Thanks for all your help pal. I am going to use some variation of your feeding routine. My germ rate is at 72% with more sprouts coming. I will narrow all these down to 3 plants of each variety and then eventually down to one on most. Some I will keep 3 or more.

Figured I would do an update tonight and then do it bi-weekly from now on. I was gone all weekend so plants got very little light if any. Put them on a table towards a south facing window. I have timers but still feel weird relying on them to keep plants alive ,and keep my house from burning down. Not much to show but here goes.

Got home just in time. They were getting a bit dry.

Gave them a drink of 1/16 strength ferts. Also narrowed them down to one seedling per cell.

Zanahoria Triangulo...... I have noticed some varieties getting a purple speckling which I assume is from the light. That is the only one with solid purple leaves.

Never heard of them myself, thanks for the compliment too however i'm just a learning grower like everyone else!
Have you decided on a final pot up mix yet?

I am currently thinking about that. I used all pro mix last year for seedlings all the way up to 7 gallon containers. I think the stuff is a bit overrated. I may use it again but doctor it up a bit. Time will tell.

I was going to do this bi-weekly but I started more seeds so I will do one more before I switch.

Looking good J.B.,

Your on the road to success, the seedlings are growing pretty quick now. You'll have flowers and probably peppers on the plants at plant-out

Nice work

Greg
