Hendrix1326's Glog for 2012, yay!

Okay, so I have been incognito here on the forums for the last couple of months. Been distracted by video games, working on house projects, etc. Anyway, I decided last week that once I laid the vinyl flooring in my laundry room that I would start germinating my seeds! I have settled on 20 varieties for this year, with (as many as) 50 plants, some of which I will keep at my mother's house, since she has a big garden space that won't all be used this year. I have the following varieties planted in Jiffy pellets in a "Germination Station" heating mat. I represented the "Big 5" species (Chinense, Annuum, Baccatum, Pubescens, Frutescens) with at least one variety, and also have a couple wilds (C.Lanceolatum, and one called "Tio") to round it out. Here is the list, with how many of each one I am growing in bold parentheses at the end:

Chinense:
01-Yellow Bullet Habanero (similar to Peruvian White, but with a distinct canary yellow color) (2)
02-Jamaican Hot Chocolate Habanero (2)
03-Red Biquinho Iracena (3)
04-CGN-21500 (2)
05-Red Aribibi Gusano (F1) (2)
06-White Bhut Jolokia (3)
07-Red 7-Pot (2)
08-Turtle's Claw (Aribibi Gusano) (2)
09-Zavory (3)

Annuum:
10-Red Pimiento (3)
11-Monkey Face (3)
12-Chicken Heart (2)
13-Purple UFO (2)
14-Hungarian Wax Cross (Unknown F1) (1, only got one seed!)

Baccatum:
15-Hot Lemon Drop (Aji Lemon) (3)
16-Bishop's Crown (3)

Pubescens:
17-Red Rocoto (3)

Frutescens:
18-CGN-22184 (3)

Lanceolatum:
19-Lanceolatum (Unknown Designation) (3)

Unknown Species:
20-Tio (3)

Here are the initial pictures of my embryonic grow rig, which will be overhauled by the time the seeds sprout:

By the time the seeds are seedlings, I plan on having all of the rest of my supplies, which includes nursery pots, convertible heat lamps, thermostat, heater, oscillating fans, pulleys, reflective materials, the whole shebangabang.

I also wanted to thank the following THP members for either trading, SASBE-ing, or giving me seeds which are among the ones I am growing this year:

cmpman1974 (Biquinho, Purple UFO)
2gods (Aribibi Red, CGN21500)
paulmtonkin (Red 7, Monkey Face, Turtle's Claw)
Pulpiteer (Hot Lemon Drop)
ZanderSpice (Rocoto, CGN22184)
DudeThtsBad (Tio)
aropupu (Lanceolatum)
S.S. Tupperware (Bishop's Crown)
dshlogg (White Bhut)
melissa77754 (Chicken Heart)

Also, thanks to whomever sent me the Zavory, I couldn't remember or find any trace of who it might be, but I know it was one of the fine folks here on The Hot Pepper. Also, thanks to HH Farm on eBay, who was one of the shining beacons of hope for Chili-Heads on that abyss, and provided me with delicious peppers of all kinds, and to whom I owe thanks for the Jamaican Hot Chocolate Habs, as well as the Yellow Bullet Habs, among others.

Stay tuned, everyone, I will have dynamic updates over the course of the year on this thread, right up until final harvests and overwintering processes in probably October. Thanks for checking this thread out!

Hey, Karl - nice to make your acquaintance!
Looks like you're ready to roll!
Have fun playing with all your stuff when you get it ;)

+1 Hammerfall, I think I remember this. Awesome list. It's a mysterious one to me. I know a few but the rest are insanely intriguing. Good luck on your grow.

Thanks guys! PS, David, sorry I didn't include any varieties you sent me. I seriously had to pare down what I was growing, since my first list back in September & October was 95 varieties! I almost included the Orange Cheyenne, but decided to ask my wife to decide which of the final 2 spots to go with. My Hungarian Wax Cross seed may not be viable, and if it isn't, the Orange Cheyenne will go on the list, since I hear that it is a great tasting pepper!

PS, the Zavory wasn't from AjiJoe, but I know he was giving away seeds for it. It was with someone I did a trade with, but since I deleted a lot of my messages when I was doing the SASBE offers, I got rid of that one before writing down the member I received them from on the baggie of seeds. Anyway, thanks for ducking in here guys, look for more updates in the next couple of weeks as the seeds sprout!

Alright! I've been waiting for you to start up a glog! It's exciting to have another Michigander getting the season started. Best of luck! And what an interesting list, should be fun to watch.

Hey, Andy! Cool to see you again! Yeah, I needed to get rolling, and I still may add more. I planted 3 of the Hot Lemon seeds from the peppers I got from you, I hope they all take off and produce like mad, 'cause those are still my favorite pepper for flavor. I just catalogued my seeds today, and have ~150 varieties, which was a little surprising! It may turn out to be more or less depending on a few that I am not sure if they are duplicates, or the same strain of a certain type. In any case, however, I have a lot of them to choose from for years to come yet!

I hope those hot lemon's turn out great for you! It'll be fun to see how they do from afar. I gave away some of the jelly I made from those for Christmas gifts to some folks and it was a hit. They may be my favorite pepper as well.

All right, time for another (albeit unexciting...) picture of my rig so far, as limited as it is. I posted the other day that I had planted a few more varieties in a second germination station. So, here is the most recent picture of my updated rig, as well as the plant food I will be using once the seedlings get their first set of true leaves, Pure Blend ProGrow.

I also recently updated my list of required materials to get once I have the cash. Thanks to Andy (Pulpiteer) for the inspiration with the 105W CFL bulbs and mylar blankets for heat retention. I will be obtaining all relevant supplies in the next month.

Awesome! I'm anxious to see it. Have you seen how Alabama Jack uses a vanity strip light and puts in cfl bulbs? That looks pretty cool too.

All right, I have some exciting news! While checking the moisture of my peat pellets, I saw my first sprout! Hot Lemon Drop are the first to sprout, and 2 out of 3 have busted out of the peat! Upon closer examination of all 100 cells, I also have a Bishop's Crown (1), Purple UFO (1), Tio (2 out of 3), and an Orange Cheyenne (1)!

Here are the latest pics of those little guys/gals:

Score! This gives me some more positive reinforcement to keep going!

To add another bit of coolness to this day, I just checked in on them again and my first Hot Lemon Drop that I noticed has emerged from the peat almost completely, with its first set of leaves rockin' it in the mid-day sun! WEE-HOO!

All right, updates-a-comin'! Checked my little kids this morning, and have some new arrivals! My C.Frutescens Bird's Eye has sprouted, as well as a Monkey Face, and Red Pimiento! My Hot Lemon Drop and Bishop's Crown seedlings are really taking off, I hope that they don't become leggy. I will do some research today to see how to combat that problem should it arise. Here are my newest pictures, and to add, I have labeled all my pictures with titles so any interested parties know what they're looking at:

Ramming speed!!!

Hope ya like the BC's I grew them for the first time last year, and they were great stuffed and Broiled. I have 3 from last year, they produced well for me so that should be enough...
