seeds Funky Seedlings... Need help

I'm sure this question has been posed before, but I looked high and low on the board to no avail.

My seedlings / sprouts have been going good for about a week... I started the seeds about 2 weeks ago. Short story long...
They have been in an inside room that I have kept at 80-81 F. I turned the supplemental heat off for about 5 hours (they are in the house at 69 F) so the temp didn't get crazy low. When I checked I had a couple of eggplants that looked to be "damping off" (laying over on their side). I removed them from the "Cell Block" and noticed the pepper plants leaves looking like they were trying to give themselves high fives (leaves are turning towards each other). One of the Bhuts leaves are actually turning in on itself.
Some of the sprouts that were popping through looked very happy this morning appear to be turning back to the dirt.
I have since removed the dome and have the heat back on them, with a fan circulating the air.
I have tried to be very careful not to over water and only giving them a spray of filtered water when the top of the soil looks to be dried out.
The lighting that I am using is 3 CFL's and no where near as close as they should be. That problem will be corrected tomorrow with new lighting.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and what I can do to correct it? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I wouldn't worry about it too much... the cotyledons do weird things sometimes. I don't usually bother with added heat once they sprout, it just encourages them to grow faster which you definitely don't want to be doing if you have inadequate light... and definitely move those guys closer to the light, otherwise lookin' good.

Thanks Sync.
I was worried about a few of them that popped early to be getting "leggy". The stems seem to be more yellowed than what I thought I saw this morning.

They do look a bit leggy but nothing that can't be corrected. When you pot them up you can just bury the stems a bit, they'll form new roots where they contact the soil (in time).

I bet it's the light distance. I had pretty much the same thing happening to a few. Once you get it back to a better level it will go away. At least mine did...

once they pop the lid needs to come off to prevent damping off etc. also need much more than 3 cfl's so sounds like you answered your own questions. wait for first true leaves to add nutes and other than that i would put them on 18/6 light cycle and water once a week and water with nutes every other week. good luck

I appreciate everyones input! I hope to have the light problem fixed tomorrow.
I may be watering a bit to frequently and causing the yellowing and damping, even though I'm letting the cell dry out on top. I'll let em dry out a bit tonight and see how they act in the morning.
Thanks again for everyones help!!!

over watering is common mistake...that and leaving seedlings in tray covered for too long. just remember, underwatering is better than over...especially in new borns. if they wilt, they will come right back with little water, but too much and you can kill them. root rot, etc. good luck and get more lights for your babies!

The same thing happens to mine. That tells me they are ready for solo cups. After that the leaves flatten out.

Edit: I bet your tap root is growing out of those cells on the bottom.

Thanks for the help everyone... Got them all in RED SOLOS and they are lookin like they are ready to party now.
I have one Bhut that has 3 cotyledon leaves. Has anyone seen this before? I've read some posts on the interwebs and read some info on tomatoes but can't find anything on peppers.

yeah - not a big deal. It apparently happens somewhat frequently in c. chinense varieties like the bhut. I had one in an orange hab... No net gain or loss from what I could tell.

Just a neat genetic mutation :)

Thanks for the feedback jss.
I didn't think it was gonna be a huge deal but wondered if anyone had seen this in a Bhut before. This is my first year and there's alot that I haven't seen :)

I have two chocolate habs like that and I have a Roma tomato like that. The tomato is the biggest of all of it's brothers so far, and the two habs are also chugging along just fine.

I even have an Anaheim that has two cotyledons fused together on one side plus a normal one. Just some genetic differences that make the plants unique. ;)

Interesting.... I will keep an eye on it and try to watch for any differences between it and the other Bhuts I have going. There are 5 altogether and this is the only one like this.
Thanks for the feedback!
