Nagas Sprout Fast

I got some naga jolokia seeds off Ebay, and I only planted them a few days ago, and they're already sprouting. Isn't that a little fast? I always read about peppers taking forever to grow.

It depends. You may have the fruitescens version, I have them, and they do sprout very fast. I also have the chinense dorset naga/naga morich, and they do take a bit longer to sprout, but with the right amount of heat and moisture I could see them sprouting in 3 or 4 days, maybe... Do you have a link to the auction? That might help identify which version you have.

They don't take forever, it just feels that way, especially when there is a tendency to check them every hour or so.

Normal for most domesticated peppers is probably about 7 to 14 days. The age of the seed and the heat/moisture of the seed starting medium can affect days to germination. Fresh seed sprouts the fastest, and soaking the seeds before planting can speed things up, too.

Also, there are some varieties and wild-type peppers that can take 4 to 6 weeks to sprout.

Ya, if they are Naga Jolokia you probably have the frutescens version which is very dissapointing. There are lots of people getting scammed with these since the name is so close.

yup Naga Jolokia came up fast for me, but I know they're not the super-hots.Bih Jolokias took 3 - 4 weeks, Naga Morich 4 - 6 weeks just to sprout....I nearly threw the tray out thinking it wasn't going to happen.

I already accidentally bought the PC-1s, which are long and skinny and mislabeled "naga jolokia." These new ones are supposed to be the fatter chinense-type peppers. I guess I'll find out.

Meanwhile, my 7 Pot and Scorpion seeds have arrived, not to mention my Super Datils.

I think the huge habaneros I bought last week are worth using for seed, too. Really fantastic.

The ones I have sowed seem to take between 14-21 days to poke through. That's in potting soil that is probably about 80 degrees, watered with 70 degree H20, sitting in a room where the temps were from 75-100 degrees during the period. The oldest one has about 18 leaves (not counting the very smallest ones in the center) and I'm figuring it is getting close to transplant time.

I also got my maga morichs to sprout 6 to 8 days after planting them. WHo did you buy seeds from on e-bay? I got some from philipperv, and some from primo....
