First timer

This is my first time trying to grow peppers, so I decided I would give growing them from seeds a try. I planted 72 jiffy discs with some butch t's, 7 pots, red savinas, bhuts, jamacian chocolates, and a couple others. Today is day 7 and I've had 3 sprouts so far. I have them sitting on a heating pad with the dome on.

I'll post some pics after lunch.

I have just a couple questions. I've been reading through the board so I wouldn't ask the same questions as others, but here are 2 of my own.

1. How often and how much do I water them? I have been using a spray bottle and have been spraying them usually once a day with about 10-12 sprays.

2. When do I start hitting them with light? I went and bought 4 T12's from the local store. I was going to buy the t5's but I couldn't justify the $130 price tag for my first time growing.

Watering schedule will depend on the size pots you are using, the temp/humidity in the room, and the size of the plants. I usually just water them when the soil has dried out. You can usually tell by holding the pots - heavier = wet soil, lighter = time to water. You could also use a long stick - poke it in the soil and leave it there. Take it out every couple of days and see if the bottom is wet.

Lights should be used as soon as the seedlings emerge, so get them under lights ASAP!

Best of luck - growing from seed is incredibly rewarding and fun! If you have those superhots germinating in 7 days, you must be doing something right!

So I should remove the ones that have sprouted and move them to a new tray under lights?

At what point should I remove the jiffy netting and put them in actual soil and a pot?

Yes, take the ones that have sprouted out of the dome - the humidity in there is only needed for sprouting. They need light as soon as they germinate otherwise they will get leggy. Transplant them when they have one set of true leaves - not including the cotyledons. Also, I forgot to mention in the first post - you should bottom water them rather than misting them. If you are using a good potting soil, it should wick the water up to the plant. Top watering will deplete the soil of nutrients and cause the top layer of the soil to harden from the harsh minerals in the tap water.
