hot-sauce Kato's Meaner Greener Habanero Sauce

I tried this one out Friday night. Interesting sauce. Very flavorful. Main flavors were the tomatillos, the lime juice, and, of course, green habaneros. These flavors conjure up meals I've had in Cuernavaca, MX. Just enough heat for those with milder tastes. This one won't hurt anyone, so it should have a pretty broad appeal. I would recommend with seafood or pretty much anything Mexican.

I'm with Staff on this one. The Meaner Greener has a great taste, and just enough heat to rouse the tastebuds. We used it on shrimp and loved it.

We also received the Mango Island Sauce. This was good as well, as shows that Mick has a definite handle on blending. I found this one sweeter, with a nice slap of heat. My wife enjoyed this one as she is into the sweeter sauces.

Out of the 3 we received, my personal favorite was the Crawfish Festival Hot Sauce. This was a little more up my alley with heat, and the texture was something I'm not really used to. I used it on bacon-wrapped scallops on the grill, and it was as if thios sauce was made for them.

Mick, I'd like to thank you again for the sauces, they are distinctly different from the ones we make, which made them that much more enjoyable. However, you MUST start bottling the Habanero flakes, those things are just flat out awesome.

Okay....that was stupid. I hit the submit button right after hitting the quote button....without a reponse in between. Not surprised. My brain is so fried after a solid weekend of Organic Chemistry (only break I took was to watch part of the UT-FL game....some break if you're a Vols fan).

Anyway, in response to the Sultan of Sizzle's (that would be you, DEFCON Creator...) post, I have also hinted that Kato's should indeed start marketing the ground smoked habanero flakes. Great stuff. I'm running low in supply.

I, too, like the Island sauce. As I have said earlier, there are those who like to showcase the pepper when making a hot sauce. There are others who use subtle blends of seasonings to create uniquely flavored sauce with heat. Kato's sauces tend to be in the latter category. Depending on my mood (and what's for dinner) I go back and forth between types. I'm glad I wandered in here and discovered all of you people.

Not a slouch among any of you. I know it seems like all of my reviews are favorable, but I have had hot sauces I didn't care for. I just haven't had any from you guys.

The Cajun Zydeco sauce we made for the city of Ft. Lauderdale's festivals for 5 years and will probably make them as a Kato sauce in the future maybe to replace our Kato's Rajun Cajun which is just a cayenne pepper sauce that needs a little attitude.

We are looking forward to introducing our new Kato's Down South hot sauce in the next month I think the clean chile flavor is sure to be a good sauce to add to your meals without masking the flavors of your favorite dises

I loved the Meaner Greener, a little more so than the Island Sauce, and thought it went will with such a larger variety of foods. The green habs are such a nice choice for this sauce. Nice heat level, certainly for my palate.
