pests Can Aphids survive/lay eggs in coconut coir ?

Hi,

I am wondering whether Aphids can lay eggs to coconut coir ?

Last year I had quite some infestation by Aphids in the greenhouse, and decided to kill the mostly damaged plants in the end.

What remained is approx 70 gal of coconut fibre with Perlite, worth well $100 over here, that I don't want to just throw away, but to reuse for my new plants.

The question is, is there any chance Aphids laid their eggs into coconut coir and survived complete drying out of the substrate ?

If so, any easy way how to kill them before they spread over my new plants ?

No expert but I would say yes. I believe they can go dormant for quite some time. You could always spray the soil with some liquid 7 or something of that nature and destroy them for good.

I wouldn't worry about aphids and just reuse the coir and then get a bag of lady bugs. I spent an entire seasons trying various sprays, chemicals etc and in the end they are the only things that completely eradicated the little pest.
