Double Moruga Chicken Jalfrezi

Last nights dinner,
Double Moruga Chicken Jalfrezi

For this dish I substituted the red and green bell pepper with two fresh morugas from Dale at Bakers Peppers.
I also substituted fresh spearmint in place of cilantro.

olive oil
2 chicken breasts cubed
Basmati rice
2 Ttbsp yogurt
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 onion
1 green bell pepper
1 red bell pepper
1 clove garlic
1 tsp ginger
1 tbsp curry powder/paste
1/2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp coriander ground
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp salt
Fresh cilantro
14oz chopped tomatoes
cilantro to garnish


cube chicken
heat oil in pan and fry cumin seeds til they sputter
add onions, peppers, garlic and ginger and fry 6-8 min
add curry paste/powder and fry 2 more min
stir in chili powder,ground coriander, cumin,and salt add water/yogurt as needed
add chicken cubes and fry 5 min, then add tomatoes and cilantro cook for 15 minutes
serve with rice

I was first concerned about my spearmint substitution, but it turned out to compliment the dish quite well.
 
Wowwwww! Love those indian dishes, and especially adding mourugas. TWO of them. pretty courageous. How was the taste and the heat? Did the heat take away from enjoying the flavor when you were burnnnning? lol. Great job.
 
Looks fantastic! I'd saute the chicken pieces in ghee and the aromatics first, I'm not a big fan of adding raw meat to a sauce even though it's safe at high temp, and it just adds more flavor. But DAYUM this rocks.

Better than jalfrezi I have had, for sure.

Pepperjam- The taste was actually pretty good. First time making the dish, i've had it elsewhere before so I had some idea of what to expect.
The recipe i was given, I feel calls for a bit too much cumin.
Other than that, the thing i was amazed about was that i did still have a sense of taste considering 2 morugas.
Heat was intense, The real tweaker was the ocassional taste of spearmint would break through the heat wall as well as slightly overpower the spice combo.
Refreshing.
I will say that i will be making this dish again in the future. Just less cumin.
