Strange Shaped Pepper

Hi Everybody. Here's a pepper from a plant that's growing at my Grandfather's house, which originally came from an ajiJoe mix. As you can see, the pod has a strange shape, and I've never seen anything like it (note that the 'bulges' are not round, but stick out on two sides of the pepper). All the pods are like that, and the plant appears to be Chinese.

Any Ideas?

That's a real cool looking pod. Any of the others on the plant showing a similar shape? And by the way, did all of your plants survive the tornado/thunderstorms out your way last week?

They're all like that. I'm assuming it's some sort of cross.

I lucked out on the tornado, it hit a few miles south of me. Lots of downed trees around, though. I'm lucky I only had a few small pots get knocked over, which I promptly stood back up.

Glad to hear that, it would have been awful to have 5 or 6 months worth of dedication ruined by mother nature! A few days before that we had a hailstorm that knocked a few branches and pods off, so I erred on the side of caution and moved the 63 potted plants I have underneath big evergreen trees, and we ended up not even getting anything.

Wow

THIS one made me laugh

I thought "what the HECK is THAT thing" lol

I can't imagine your thoughts.

No clue

That'd be wild if you could cross that with super hots - the new hottest would be this blob like thing.

Thanks for the replies everybody! I've been traveling and really haven't had a proper chance to replyy back (in fact I'm sitting on the tarmac at BWI waiting for a storm to blow over right now). I think AZgirl is right, and I'm thinking its some sort of cross with a monkey face pepper. I'll have to do some research when I get back, and I'll take a few more pictures once it ripens.

Happy trails!

This could be it:

Edit: Perhaps not. The peppers on Judy's site are Chinense while the calyx on your photo looks like an Annuum (notice the "teeth" on the calyx in your pic).

Yeah, I think You're right. On top of that, these peppers are more of a "cross" shape rather than a scotch bonnet/mushroom. Interesting pepper though...

Here's an updated pic (not sure if it is the exact same pepper, but it is off of the same plant). I think there are steroids in the soil over at my Grandparent's house or something....

I still think it's a Monkey Face cross of some sort. Hopefully they will ripen soon and I'll be able to find out.
