Brown/black seeds = fungus?

Was cutting up some peppers from the store today, and about half of them had spots of brown seeds, verging on black. I assume that's fungus starting?

Are there any non-fungus causes of darkening?

I threw the affected ones out just because they didn't seem particularly appetizing any more, but I'm wondering if it was an overreaction or not.

no the black seeds are just seeds that are dead i get a couple of them in a pod or two here and there when de seeding peppers just dont save them for seeds

My pubescenses are gray. :tear:

Throw the seeds out, eat the pepper. I'll even eat the peppers if mold is growing on the placenta, so long as it hasn't spread to the rest of the pod then it can be cut out and the pod rinsed off.
