To taste or not to taste?

Do you guys/gals actually use your limited edition sauces?
If you do then all you are left with is a limited bottle and memories.
Me i just get more than one bottle use one, save one, after all your don't see wine buffs trading empties.

I belive that any good sauce maker will put out a collector bottle and also sell the same sauce in a non collector bottle that can be used.

Yea but that would make it a collector bottle rather than a collectors sauce.
I always thought that limited meant limited as in we will only ever make a limited amount of this sauce.
Forgive me but an i missing the point but why would you say hundreds of $$ for a sauce that might also be sold in a plain bottle for say $5?

Buying sauce & not eating it is like buying a painting & putting it in a cupboard. The first things anyone wants to know is 'What does it taste like & How hot is it?

how do bentalphanerd not seen you in the galore for a bit.
I know what your saying thats why i'd buy 2 bottles if the price is right, but i don't see the point of paying more for a sauce that is gonna end up on general sale in a normal bottle and at a cheaper price than the limited edition.
In fact i've just bought 3 bottles of a limited run and 1 of them isn't gonna get opened, so at some point i'll have the only surviving bottle and that is unique surely

Sure if you can get more than one bottle - or a signed release is also nice. But what happens if you don't like the sauce you bought - do you still leave a bottle on your shelf of fame?

Its all hype .
Limited edition hot sauce ....ooooooh ya really got somthing there .
come on it's sauce .

My opinion still stands on this ... if you buy any sauce makers limited edition sauce and they don't offer it any other way than in a numbered bottle you are getting sold hype.
I have nothing good to say about a sauce maker that has big claims on a sauce that they will only sell 40 numbered bottles to collectors.

when I try a sauce and like it I will buy it and to hear that it was a limited run and there will be no more I call that hype and will then look elsewhere for sauce I can get.

well some numbered batches can be worth it - current eg. would be stillmanz devil tongue jerk sauce. Its limited to the amount of pods he had & I'll be getting a few...and eating them all.
As for sauces made with readily obtainable bulk ingredients, I agree they're cashing in.
But yeah - checkout the ingredients on most of these things & you can see why they're rare or limited.

I have two sauces in my range which are limited edition types.
My Devils tongue Jerk, and my Texas pequin hot sauce both are limited run products due to the fact the peppers are not commercially availiable.
Mind you, as we are officially labeling and releasing the devils tongue jerk at easter the first batch will be numbered.
Yes its hype and yes I expect you to use the sauce....hell keep the bottle as a souvenier but use the sauce otherwise it would be a waste.

IMHO I do believe hot sauce was ment to be tasted at least.
It would drive me crazy looking at some unoped bottle on the shelf, I'd get pissed and open it for sure lol.

"If you eat it, he will come..."
Sauces were meant for flavoring your food, don't keep them as some kind of souvenir.
The bottle? maybe.
The sauce? hell no.

I did a very limited edition recently - made 4 bottles of 'pain2' & 3 of them were sent to competitions  The last one dies tomorrow.
I set my recipes and ingredients though, it can be reproduced, it'll just be a while before the next batch.

Bent @ I had an extremely limited edition for some of my experimental sauces. 1 bottle each.
Save me a bottle (or more ) on your next batch, I'll be ordering it for sure.

Stillman @ You're one dramatic guy.

 I'm stacking it up next to the 10 & snakebite private reserve tomorrow. Looking forward to comments. I can't wait to be able to make more of it, all the joy of normal pain with that extra mile only a million scovilles can give you.

I'm thinking billyboys Naga concentrate is cause for serious concern but this belongs in another thread.

I'm still struggling to see the point of using a collectable sauce, after you've eaten it you can't get more even if it was the best sauce you've ever tasted and that would annoy me, and at the end of the day all you are left with is an empty bottle.
And are the most expensive bottles of wine empty bottles or undrinkable liquid?
so if every one else that buys from the same limited run as me and eats the sauce and i keep 1 bottle unopened then i'll have the only one left in the world and that would be unique

I'ts like good scotch, only the brave open a $300 bottle but damn it taste good.
No regrets.
Bhudists say if you love somethin let it free if it returns to burn you the next day it was ment to be. lol

I couldn't have it unopened in my cupboard, I've paid for it so I'm going to eat it. I do save the bottles but I'll probably re-use them. I had a limited edition from Woody and that was opened within seconds of it leaving the postmans hand.
