Help Identify!

I was eating at a Mexican Eating Establishment and I asked for their hottest sauce they came with something that looked like coffee that had seeds in it, the only thing the guy was willing to tell me about his sauce is the peppers he used were Habanero's, before I asked him the question about what hot peppers he used. I put it liberally on my food taste was good and then the side of my face were I was chewing went numb, someone could have done orthodontic surgery and I wouldn't have felt it. It was hot. He said also it was a variation of a recipe that comes out of Yucatan Mexico. Any idea what it was?

If the dark was caused by Mexican chocolate (very likely) it was mole. Mole recipes are closely guarded secrets in Mexico.

I have had moles over the entire range of picante from stop-your-heart (Oaxaca) to quite mild (Monterrey). What they have in common is chocolate and chiles.

Then my wife (who also had it) was right she said it was probably a mole with unsweetened chocolate. Thanks Willard I'll have to tell her she was right on the money.

This made me think slightly off topic.

They may have the green and red hab sauces(neon green and red) at local mexcican restaraunts near you, they are in every one here.

I used to think that they were seriously hot!

The other day I had some. I can just about drink it now.
