harvesting Time from green to harvest in New England?

X-post form the introductions area (but figured woud get more feedback here) - Thx

Been into hot peppers forever, but this is my 1st year growing the super-hots......found this site....

Will try to get some pics up in a few days....

In my garden (proper) in 2012:

Cayannes
Thick Cayannes
Scotch Bonnets
Hot Thai
Habenaros (orange)

In pots:

Devils Tongue
7-Pot
Bhut/Ghosts (not sure of exact strain)

^^^^^A few of My Devil Tongues are starting to turn yellow in the past week, but Ghosts and 7-pots pots are nice and green (and plentiful), BUT no sign of turning......

Being in the North East, I have about a month of outdoor time left - my plan is to bring the pots in to the garage on frost./freeze nights.......will I make it?

What triggers the fruit to turn to orange/red? Shorter days? Cold?

I love this stuff!!!!

I mostly dry (in dehydrator) and ground up with a little coffee grinder....and make various hot-sauces (never the same twice)

Thanks

It will be close but I went from picking a hundred or bin full to 2+ bin fulls of ripe pods in last week. The cooler weather has stuff changing much more rapidly. I have plenty of pods of super hots that reamin green for 60+ days before turning ripe.

I can't help you with the superhots... I haven't grown them yet, but next year...

I started my seeds between the middle and the end of February, planted outside the middle of April with a strategy for extending the season. My Annuums started blossoming before I planted out, so I pinched the blooms until the plants got at least a foot tall. They started setting pods the third week in May. Orange Habaneros started blossoming the middle of June. The Annuums started ripening the middle of July, and the Habs started ripening the end of July. Hope this helps

Glad things are hangin' on where you are. Unless you're in the northwest corner of CT you've probably got a couple more weeks of growing than we do here. Good luck with your harvest!

Thanks for the offer of seeds, but I'm all set. I might have a few that interest you though... check out my trade list, and if you see anything you want drop me a pm. Cheers

Taken last weekend - not bad for 1st attemp eh?

Severl have since turn yellow....

Ya - 3 or 4 plants per pot. Things are really starting now - 10 or so of Devils tongues are all a nice yellow; 3 of my 7-pots are a deep orange and 2-3 of mt Bhuts are starting to get some color - amazing how much they turn in a day....can't wait to get home each day and see progress....

Whats the best way to post pics? Pay $35?

Nah... just upload them to a website like Photobucket. If you do use photobucket... click on the "Direct Link" button for the pic you want to include, and the Image button on the THP editor and paste the direct link to the window that pops up.

If you run out of time and still don't have ripe pods, just pick them anyway and toss them in a paper bag with a green bananna. In a few days, the pods will all be ripe. Almost like magic.
