YYYUUUUCCCKKKK

My wife bought me a box of Jalepeno poppers...I figured I'd give em a go....I gagged!!! NO HEAT...they used pickled peppers and stuffed them with chedder cheese...Overwelming vinegar flavor!! The worst poppers I have ever had...So do NOT buy the boxed poppers from Aldi's!!!!!!!!!

Oh, oh, that happened to me! A friend had some for me since she knew I liked poppers, but they were just like you described! And the cheese was all dry and plastic-y. And I had to be polite and eat some. Yuck!

That reminds me of last Saturday when my lovely Dad bought me 4 Apache seedlings from the garden centre. I grew it last year and vowed never to grow an Apache chilli plant again, now I'm stuck with 4 future ones.

My buddies buy those popper every year for superbowl and I always say that I'll make real ones the next year but never do.

I like this recipe for poppers....

habs (orange, red, or any other you want) slit down the side and stuffed with crab meat and mexican cheese, dipped in a batter used for frying cajun style fish, and deep fried until golden brown...no deseeding or anything and there is almost no mess...other than the grease...and they will light you up....or at least they do me...

Damn it AJ. Does it look like I am anywhere near the necessary equipment to make that right now???

*of all the inconsiderate....*

Now I will be pissed off until I can go home and make some of those!;)

I do get the frozen ones from Krogers from time to time. They are not vinegary and I cover them in hot sauce anyways, so they are KO.

It is just a pain to meke them (I have 3 kids) from scratch. But crab hab poppers? Worth the work I guarantee it!

Do you season the crab and cheese at all? Or just the breading?

I posted that 'cause I knew you were at work and couldn't get to the "fixins"........;)

Just make a fish fry batter from scratch with Tony Chachere's extra spicy cajun in the batter ( I use about equal portions of flour and yellow corn meal), some salt and black pepper...and I use canned crab meat no seasoning and let the mexican cheese do the seasoning for the crab...I have not tried it yet but I bet Monteray Jack or Pepper Jack would be good too....

And by the way, I will make some this evening myself...gotta make a fresh pepper run to Central Market....

Wow. Central Market.........sounds dreamy.......;)

I don't think I can get habs this time of year. All of mine are dried or in vinegar.

My local mega-mart has got lots of jalapenos, poblanos, cayennes etc.

I am thinking jalapenos with hab powder on the crab.

Central Market is where I go when I want something "out of season"...they import produce from all over. Heck, I can get fresh turnip greens year round there. They are pretty expensive but they do have a good selection of hot peppers....Orange Habs are common there year round and the fruit is good and firm...I will make a list and maybe even take some pictures when I go...

You get right down to it....any pepper with crab meat and cheese in it battered and fried is going to be good....hmmmm...I wonder about frying some bacon and crumbling that up real fine and adding that to the crab meat/cheese stuffing....

The thread title is yuck but those crab/cheese/bacon popper sound yummy. Oh and can't forget the fried batterry goodness:P

AJ you are right about the hab poppers being terrific. I never had them with crab too but everything is better with bacon and crab so I will have to try them. I was at a hotluck one time when they had popper roulette. Most were mild jalapenos but every once in a while some unsuspecting person (who wasn't being very observant about the shape) grabbed and gobbled a habanero one. We got a real kick out of that. It shouldn't be done at a regular party but all these people were there for a HOTluck so they should have been prepared.

Thanks for the sounds yummy part....they sounded so good, I went to Central Market at lunch and bought some orange habs and jalapenos (for the wife) and am going to make some tonight....

Bought some Nando's Chickenland Hot Peri-Peri Sauce and am having boiled shrimp with tartar sauce and some or the Peri_peri sauce right now...

that is a terrific sauce I bought a bottle of it and ate the whole thing in a couple days. Not real hot but very tasty.:P

Not that I agree with violence, but I think Dyce's Mrs. deserves kick in the seat of the britches. (I know...thought that counts and all, but we don not bring screw tops to an expert wine tasting, and we do not pick up frozen poppers for THP posters!!)
