Need Advice Please!

To make a long story short, we are moving some time between now and June (depending on when we find a house). I usually start seeds before xmas and I still have not entertained the idea. The reason is because I feel like we are in limbo and I would be more pissed if I started seeds and they got damaged during the move. Also, Im 4 months pregnant so my aggervation tolerance has decreased severely (dont piss me off :oP ), so because of that I am avoiding things that I know will drive me crazy to save everyone a little bit of sanity!!

So this past year I got some plants from pepperplants.com since our "limbo" started 1 1/2 years ago. I was disappointed that several of the plants I got from there were not true to what they were suppose to be. Some were simple rookie mistakes, they probably really didnt know the difference and some were above and beyond, like something that was a "yellow" pepper turned out to be a "red" pepper.

With that said, I dont want to depend on cross country nurseries to do my garden this year, I dont know if its worth it to start my own seedling, and I dont want to be without a garden this season.

Some advice and support would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Same boat here but not pregnant obviously lol. I'll be moving sometime within the next month and not exactly sure where either. But I"m gonna go ahead and start my seeds tomorrow anyways. Its really a better safe than sorry kinda thing for me. I know If I didn't have any and found a place I'd be extremely pissed. So good luck!

Nicole, if it were me, I would probably hold of on growing from seed. You guys are close enough, you could even take a roadtrip down to Cross Country Nursery for a few plants after you get moved in.

I'd do like the other suggest and hold off until you know where and when you are going.
And congrats on the baby. Its a life changing experience for sure.

yup, take this year off. its going to be hard but the baby and your nerves will love you for it. good luck with your move and gratz on the baby!

Relax and enjoy the pregnancy. You guys could always make a trip to PA in the spring and I will give you 50 of the extra plants I will have. I will be starting 216 plants which will end in around 200 by plant out most likely and I am only looking at putting around 100 in the ground.

The last time we moved, I was in the same situation. I didn't know exactly where/when we'd be moving, but I couldn't stand the thought of not having my garden. So I started plants, and then we moved before it was time to get them in the ground, so timing worked great for that. I moved my plants around in rubbermaid containers, so there was no damage, I didn't lose any in the actual moving process

However, one thing I did not factor in is that it takes time to prepare the ground for a new garden space. I did the bare minimum that year, and my garden was awful. Absolutely everything failed that year, I almost gave up gardening for good, I was so disheartened.

So I would suggest starting just a very few seeds, and plan to plant them in pots for this first year. Start varieties that make you happy, and that will grow well in a pot. That will give you time to get to know the new space you're living in and really do the garden right, and then timing on the move doesn't matter quite so much. Move the plants to their pots when they're ready for it, and then you're not adding stress by worrying about plants and moving.

Wow okay I might take you up on that, what variety/varieties?

This is great and comforting advice (you mean im not suppose to do it ALL?!) Thanks for your input!

If a road trip is out of the question (I have a 4 month old and I know the ordeal involved somedays just to get groceries!) try a farmers market.

My town farmers market has a vendor that deals with a ton of hot peppers and tomatoes and he grows from his own stock of seeds and plants, so everything I've ever gotten from him has been true.

Congrats and good luck.
