Next TD is the Rice Challenge!

 

You must make an entree with rice, without simply putting something on top of plain rice. The rice must be somehow incorporated into the dish! Instead of naming an Indian, Asian, or Mexican TD, all are game here. Even Italian and Spanish (hint hint) and so many others!

 

Q. Can I put something on top of the rice if I transform the rice beforehand?

A. Yes of course! The idea is you must cook with rice and not simply cook rice and plop the dish on top or next to it.

 

All must be on one plate. No side dishes expect breads. The completed dish must be an entree.

I am not a huge chocolate fan, and plan to brew beer batches this weekend ... but D is thinking about entering in my stead, and she is formidable with chocolate ...

I 'spose if you took that slice and seared it off in ci, it would look a whole lot better and prob taste better than that pink slice.

I 'spose if you took that slice and seared it off in ci, it would look a whole lot better and prob taste better than that pink slice.

I will enjoy rooting from the sidelines on this one. Kids have a swim meet this weekend and I haven't found anything in dying to try. Hopefully I will see some dishes that will change that.

I am not a huge sweet chocolate fan, either. In fact, a number of peeps gave me chocolate candies for Christmas (maybe they think I need to gain some weight???) and I am giving it away. Mind you, I love one or two from time to time, but I much prefer non-chocolate if I'm going with sweets.

 

On the other hand, the key here is to separate "chocolate" from "sweet", which I know a lot of people have a hard time doing. The really high-percentage chocolate/cocoa is not sweet-tasting at all, and can actually be rather bitter. Also, I think another key is not to over-use the chocolate - a little can go a long way. I tend to see it as more of an enriching ingredient than anything else.

 

There again, maybe you've given this a try already and still don't care for it. Regardless, I'll be looking forward to seeing what D makes!

Yep - there's something special about a (tiny!) slice of chocolate cheesecake. But in case your tendencies not to fully read have kicked in, keep in mind the TD is for savory - no desserts.

     My vote is still for a bean TD. Winter seems like a good time to cook something that takes a long time on the stove or in the oven. Fill your stomach and heat your home at the same time!

Egg throw down would be cool.  Someone else mentioned potato throw down, which is a good idea.  Also believe a bacon TD would be epic.  

 

Vegetarian TD, Stuffed TD, Tropical Island/Hawaiian/Polynesian TD, Madagascar TD (brainstorming).

 

Also would like to see another 'chopped' style TD where 3 random ingredients are announced the day of along with PoL.
