plant Plant from ebay seeds

Hello everyone

I bought some seeds off ebay a little while back that were supposed to be Bhut Jolokia. I've been growing them happily for the past month or so but have since come across some posts where people have received ebay seeds that are totally different to what they were expecting and made me wonder about these.

I don't have any pods yet (they're still only about 10cm tall) but what are your thoughts? Possible Bhut Jolokia or clearly something else? or is it still too early to tell?

Thanks very much
Chris

Not an expert, but too early to tell?...I had the same concerns (also ebay or amazon) and everything turned out fine.....but since then make some friends, make some trades (here) and have no worries....

PS - I'm sure experts (I am not) will pipe in saying what it really is..a Bhut/Butch/Scorpian/7Pot/uguncus/hybyrd stain xyz..but it looks like a pepper to me :)

Welcome to the best board!!!!

Ps its < 20 degrees(f) here with snow on the ground, so your sunny Perth pics warm me (and lots others) up!!!!

Too early to tell if you ask me but do not be surprised if it is not what you expect. Tylerdodd is right on the money. I purchased 4 seedlings on ebay 3 years ago that were about the size of the plants you have now that were supposed to be bhut jolokia seedlings from Hirts gardens and when they set pods, they turned out to be caribbean red habaneros. Of course, by the time that happened, I could not file a complaint due to the time gap from seedling purchase to pod setting. Hopefully you will be alright. But, if you purchased the seeds from Hirts gardens, you may be screwed.

Thanks everyone. At least it's C.Chinense... I guess I'll keep it going and see what comes up. Also I didn't buy from Hirts gardens so fingers crossed! haha. Anyway I'll update when I get some pods and show you what I've got.

Tylerdodd - That pic would be funny if it wasn't a possibility for me! haha ;)

Don't get all too discouraged from what you read here about where you bought those seeds. The are some reputable sellers on the ePlace. Hopefully you might have found one there. Time will tell.

Besides, you started off by saying this...

I've been growing them happily for the past month or so..

Look over in the Vendor Vault topic. You'll get an idea of who's who as for selling seeds.
That or just ask around here. Sure, someone will help you.

Good Luck.

But then again, some strange peppers come out of the ePlace.

I had that happen to me from an Amazon seller.... I still have the bell pepper plant. It has a pepper on it right now. I planted "white habs", got bell pepper. I ate them anyway. You get what you get when you get a "great deal" on seeds for $1.20!

Stay away from Hirts and Seeds Direct. I planted TS last year and got common habs, too. Not a "bad" trade off, but not what I wanted.
