I just ran across this on Premier's website, very useful to anyone using Pro-Mix bales or any bagged soil really if you want to do a bit more math after using this calculator.

I was about to thank you until the calculator told me that I needed 26.12 3.8cu ft bales, or about $1215 worth at the local seed shop's price.

If every seedling comes up and I don't kill any, I'll end up with 288 5 gallon buckets. I was hoping my math was wrong, but I did it twice.

288 pepper plants all in five gallon buckets. I am impressed. Most I've ever had was around 80. I was making my own growing medium in those days.

288 in pots is more than I ever tried to manage in containers. That will turn into a full time job.

I tried to do about 120 in containers once, what a nightmare.

You could keep your soil costs down if you have access to free compost or manure, go 1/3 ProMix, 1/3 manure/compost, 1/3 pine bark and add some extra perlite.
