Spot the anomaly

I got a bit of a surprise when I inspected one of my (actually, seed was from Grant at Jungle Rain) Primo plants today. See if you can see what I am referring to...

This MAY be a reason...

As you can see, it is growing right next to a Yellow 7 Pot (Y7P on the left, Primo on the right). So, there may be some cross pollination...or it may be a throwback.

What do you think?
 
I would guess its a genetics throwback. Because if it was cross the whole plant would have yellow pods. But I am still new to this stuff.
 
Hmmmm, I'm not sure how that would happen millworkman as I only plant one seedling per pot.

I might go dig the soil out from the base of the plant and see what happens...
 
Romy6, it may very well be an accident...but the accident would have to be...

a Yellow 7 Pot Primo was accidentally put in with a batch of Red 7 Pot Primo seeds, AND
I accidentally planted 2 seedlings in one pot.

Not impossible I admit...

As I said, I will dig around the base next time the sun is up and see if there is any distinct separation of the plants - which would confirm the theory.
 
You have to wonder how many times it needs to be said that any plants growing next to each other will NOT have an effect on any other plant until the next generation? Heck Millman you've probably said it 50 times this year already. Don't people read other threads?

Even if it isn't two plants the occasional mutant does show up. If the one stalk produces red peppers and the other one produces yellow peppers then obviously two different plants.

Every time a friend finds out I grow things they tell me about the time they grew bells next to jalapeños and had spicy bells or their aunt grew cucumbers next to pumpkins and grew long orange cucumbers or their grandpa grew tomatoes next to his dog house and he grew tomatoes that chased their own tails. I think average people saving seeds and growing from them is so rare these days that a lot of basic stuff just gets lost.

So, looks like maybe two seedlings have fused or something...I dont know...

Only explanation I can come up with is that I planted a couple of seeds in the same Jiffy. I normally separate multiple seedlings that sprout in the same Jiffy. However, one seed may not have germinated until I had repotted the first seedling...that's about all I can come up with...
 
the texture on the yellow pepper is different than the primo next to it,,very strong posibility of 2 different plants,,i have taken soil from starter pots that did not do good,insted of dumping it)I then combined it with bigger pots only to have non germinated seeds germinate in the pot with the bigger plant, big plant protects seedlings very well could this be what happened here ?

Hi pepperhog. I haven't grown Primo's before - but to my untrained eye, they seemed to share similar characteristics like the little tail at the end.

Anyway, it appears you are on the right track. I think a yellow seed must have made it into the red seed bag and one germinated before the other - thus hiding the second seedling when it germinated...or something like that.

Anyway, looks like we have it sorted.

This happens to me all the time. Plant two seeds(or more) in one cell or cup or whatever and only have one come up till they are in their final pots. Then randomly this old seed sprouts and shoots up very tall very fast, like your yellow one did.
 
That is freaking awesome ! Talk about great luck ! Anyone know if the genetics of the seeds from these pods will be influenced by the graft ?
