lighting hydro lighting?

Just had a few simple questions for you guys! I have a grow store down the street and was in there cause i have been thinking about trying to grow indoor. I would kind of like to stay away from hps and was wondering will i get pods from t5s or big cfls? I was just going to start small and do 4 to 6 plants in my back room. If these types of lights will be adequate how many would i need? I was looking into a 4 bulb 4ft t5 setup online and didn't want to buy it if I'm not gonna get indoor pods? The store down the street has those monster cfls and the girl said they will take me from start to finish but there quite a bit more expensive than the t5s im looking at.. If i go that route how big of an area will they cover? They also have peppers in the store growing and had ripe pods under hps but they were the tiniest pods I've ever seen. kind of makes Mr think they don't know what there doing. There pepper plants are tall and lanky and have very thin folage. Oh and they were in soil btw not hydro.... Idk what to think or where to start! So I'm turning to the pepper gurus! hopefully you guys can,help!
