Aeroponic indoor grow log

Well I figured I'd start a grow log. I have a 4.5'X4.5'X6.5' grow tent with a 1000w MH bulb for vegging and a HPS for flowering. A Big Kahuna air cooled hood with a 474 CMF fan sucking the hot air out as well as another 300CFM. I am using 2 35 gallon totes with 8 sites per tote. This is an aeroponics setup. In one tote I have 7 naga jalokias and 1 jalapeno growing. In the other tote I have 5 nagas and 1 redfire chili. I'm using 3 part jungle juice with RO water and Calmag. I've been have pretty decent results so far. I just transplanted the rest of the pepper plants from my Aerogarden into the second tote today The jalapeno was started about 3 weeks before everything else.

The plants in the second tote are about 12 days old and the first tote are about 25 days give or take.

Here are some pix!!

Here is the tent

Nice grow tent but I see that you have air lines there. Do you have pictures of inside the box and he root mass?

Yea I have an 8 inch airstone in each tote. In tote #1 you wont see any roots yet since I just transplanted them in there but in tote #2 they are looking pretty good, rootwise. Hang on I'll take a few pix

Obviously the one with the larger roots is the jalapeno.

I've been trying to keep the reservoir temps down by freezing half gallon bottles of water but the temps usually float between 75-80. I'd like it to be around 70.

Nice thank you for the pictures. What timer are you using and what pump cycles are you running? Not many other people on here run aeroponics. I never use an air stone in my setups just because I believe the spray aerats the solution enough but it definitely doesn't hurt.

The timer is from this site. http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-Dual-Outlet-Digital-Timer-w-Battery-BackUp.asp

I am not using a timer for the pumps but I am thinking of getting one so that my pump isn't constantly running which is increasing the water temps. Yea I was told that the airstone wouldn't hurt. I put the airstone in the aerogarden and I noticed an improvement in growth. Especially since root rot starts from not getting enough oxygen to the roots, among other things.

What kind of setup are you using?

Also that timer is Amazing! You can set different schedules to different days of the week. It is totally customizable. I will probably get another one just for the pumps and maybe run them on and off every few minutes.

I do vegies in my aero but I got some dwc's running right now and will have an aeroponic bucket going in the next 2 weeks.

I make these repeat timers myself which allows me to have the pumps on for about 40-50 seconds and then off for 4 minutes and it repeats that all day and night.

Aeroponic bucket is for peppers

Cool set up. Very high tech. Are there a lot of advantages with aeroponics compared to hydroponics?
Well they are very similar to eachother and I don't think there are A LOT of advantages but they are suppose to get more oxygen being suspended in air being spraying with misters rather than being completely submerged in water using a airstone to get the oxygen. You can't go wrong with either setup but I believe aeroponics may top hydroponics if compared side by side. But it also depends on the experience of the grower.

Very nice!
What are you growing in those?

Also how much for 2 timers?

The two DWC's in the picture have moruga scorpions which are part of an experiment. I have another DWC with a ghost scorpion and the aero bucket will have a prik kee noo suan for a grow competition. I will be starting up 1 more DWC's though with an Ice Scream scorpion and I have a 6 site aeroponic system that I will get back up and running with some lettuce, tomatoes and broccoli.

I have never contemplated selling the timers which is why I posted up the DIY instructions. They are very easy to make and I may contemplate making you two just for the cost of the timers from target if you really do not want to tackle it.

That's really generous of you. I'm going to stop by my local hydroponic shop an see if they have anything inexpensive first.

What kind of light are you using? Also what nutes?

So I went to the grow shop today and they wanted $70 for 1 recycler timer. That's crazy!
If your offer still stands let me know. I'll send you the money PayPal.

The lights I am using are fluorowing cfls and 4 foot t8 fixtures. And I use botanicare pure blend pro grow and bloom. I am testing out supernatural blend grow aqua and it seems to work well.

Also let me get to target and buy the timers and get to making them and I will let ya know how much they cost.

Neat looking set up. I have a similar multi plant system but mine is DWC not air.

Are the neuts you are using turning that water brown? most of the stuff I am using keep the water pretty clear but I am switching to some GH neuts soon so maybe that will change.

Question for both you and Dan: do you plan on putting these outside when the weather warms up or are they under the lights full time? Personally, I am planning on putting them outside in May as long as I can keep the water temp cool enough.

Thanks Dan. If they are dual outlet timers I really only need one. I only have 2 pumps to run.

Thanks Jeff. Yes the jungle juice bloom is a very very dark color which turns it that. One is green, one is red and one is very dark brown.

I wish I could put them outside but I live in an apartment with a wrap around balcony.

That is a nice setup, you're going to have massive plants in no time. However, it's going to get awfully crowded with 8 plants per tote. I originally started 4 plants in a 4 x 4 grow tent & ended up having to move two outside because two plants was enough to fill that room from corner to corner. Are you planning on keeping all 16 or are you going to thin them out after they get larger?

Best of luck!

Thanks, yea I think after they get real big I'm gonna get some 5 gallon buckets and make an aeroponics like Dan showed in the pic. Well see if I get that far. I'm havin some cooling issues so I picked up a portable ac today. I left it on so when I get home it will hopefully be down to temp. My reservoir temps have been at 80 and I think I might have a little root rot. Those timers should help keep the temps down a little. I might add more water that way it takes longer to heat up from the pump.

Thanks Dan! So I just got home figuring the ac unit I just hooked up would have cooled my entire apartment down. I walk in and it's 82 degrees in my apartment and my grow room is at 84... This portable ac unit is creating so much heat to run its like having a space heater! I turned it down from high to low and it seems to be bringing the temps down slightly. I really did not expect this after dropping all that money for a damn ac.

Wow that sucks.. Anywayyy..

IT'S DONE!!

You need to PM me your address.

This is how I would set it up if I were you. 5 off and 1 on intervals.

That is the time schedule I got with 5 out and 1 in during testing of this timer.

You can adjust it anyway you like though.

Anyway timer from Target was $11.12 after tax and rubber washer was negligible price.

You can paypal me that amount after you receive the timer and see that it is working.

Hope it works as well for you as it has for me.

Dude you are a genius! Thank you so much, I owe you big time. I will PM you my address. You should really sell these things though. I had no idea how expensive recycle timers were, and that is damn cheap.

But on another note. I just called the grow shop about my ac making my room hotter and they said the unit they sold me is for long distances away. Which means I would have the ac in an adjacent room and run ducting to my grow room. I had no idea it was that kind of ac, so they said try cracking a window and putting the ac by it and see if that dissipates the heat. So I'm trying that now and if it doesn't work I'm better off just using my window ac...
