First Fatalii

Out of the 4 Fataliis I have in the basement, this was the first ripe pod. It is small, but all of the peppers I have grown in the basement have been small. I guess HID is no comparison to the sun.

Its gone now, down the hatch. Now I have to wait for the other few to finish growing and ripen.

Never had one before but everyone here raves about them so I decided to grow them. Seeds were only a couple of dollars after all, what would be the harm.

It burns much like a hab, and smells just like a hab, but the taste is better. Much less yucky than an orange hab, maybe more like a white hab, but still a little different. Hard to describe, but from someone like me who doesn't like orange habs, I was put off by the smell thinking it would taste just like one since it smelled like one, but it was different...In a good way.

Burned for 5 min or so, if that. Not much to add.

Awesome Jeff!
Even a small pepper is a good pepper!
I like the hab taste myself. Not sure why but I'm partial to the yellow pods.
Fataliis are one of my favorites!

mine were verry productive and burned much hotter than orange hab all I had were 3 plants i kept givin em away and never ran out still have some in freezer they remind me a lot of yellow 7s in flavor but dont burn as long

I guess I'm in the minority here. Most people rave about the flavor of fataliis. While they taste good to me, I don't put them even in the top 5 for flavor. I think any yellow 7 variety or yellow moruga scorpion has a superior flavor. Brown 7 Pots and Brown Moruga Scorpions have a better flavor in my opinion too. My taste buds must just be different. To each his own, right?

Another one just ripened yesterday. That one will end up on a pizza tonight. Yum. Got another 1/2 dozen or more on the plant that are in various stages of growing. Not too shabby for plants in the basement.

I'm growing some Fataliis this year(at the moment 12). I was looking for something to blend with my Scotch Bonnets and Jamacain Hot Chocolates once smoking/drying time comes around. I'm not fond of the Hab flavor so I hope these do the trick.

Goodluck on your growing this year.....if spring ever shows up....lol

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but was searching out peoples opinions on Fatalii flavor.

I have two plants right now and honestly was not impressed with the flavor...or lack their of. All I got out of the one ripe pod I ate was flowers and bitterness the more I chewed. No citrus undertones or even a slight hint of sweetness. Am I crazy?

Everybody has their own opinion! Not crazy, just a different opinion. I hear people talk about how much they hate the taste of Douglahs but some people out their love them. If you don't want the peppers that ripen I would gladly take them off your hands for you... Lol.

AZ is right - To me Lemon Drops taste soapy and just awful. Fatellis have a slight undertone of citrus then they kill me. Dont know what it is they just ef' me up.

Haha I actually found a good use for them. Even though I don't really like them fresh, they are fantastic in sauce!

Thats exactly what the Fatalii's do to me. I tried another piece tonight while making my first sauce; just a little piece and realized yes it does have a slight citrusy undertone, but still not that great. In the sauce however, whole different story!

I'm not a fan of the lemon drops either... They're alright I guess. Just a super strong taste

Possibly another conversion! Last year I could not grow enough of them, this year my freezer is already getting full. Will not go through another winter without my Fatalii's.

Over the last four years I purchased either Fatalii plants or seeds from four different sources. I think with peppers like this that have been around for a while, you need to look at genetics. Each source came up with very different pod tastes and heat levels. I have some that are sort of wimpy in general, with a weak taste and heat. The peppers themselves are also pale in color. I have some that are big and dark yellow that light you up, almost like a yellow brain strain in heat. Some had a bitter taste and some did not. Fortunately I have two plants from all these that are exactly what most people say they are like, and they are luscious.
I think these are worth the trouble to shop around for. If you grow one you don't like, Try someone else's genetics, there are better ones out there. Tom

Not to mention how you grow them. My potted Fatalii's are much better than my raised garden Fatalii's. And my raised garden Fatalii's are much better than my in the dirt Fatalii's. Water, Heat, Sun, Nutrient's, all plays a factor. In pots I have more control over all four.

Yes, you are in the minority. The minority is the amount of people that can even taste a difference :D  Most people's mouths are so on fire that  the difference between a fatalii, and a 7 pot brown is moot.
