1st Transplant & Progress

Here is my 1st Transplant. I wanted to try it now rather than wait incase I screwed up and still have time to reseed.
I transplanted the Jalapeno since it is common and available at any market

Thanks I hope their happy and when I transplanted the Jala judging by the root system I still had alot of time before I really needed to transplant it well now I know
Just really wanted to see if I could do it more than anything

Tom, this year is my first and I remember when I first transplanted my seedlings from their 76 cell tray, that I was so nervous I was going to kill them all. Boy, I was surprised when they all made it. Now I'm just trying to keep up with them until I plant out around the first weekend in May.

By the way, why do you think your screen name is lame? I like it, it's original and peppy.

They are looking good, they should make it to May. Are you watering from the top or bottom. I ask because they look really wet and I would hate to see them get caught with damping off (root rot). I keep mine really dry and they seem to be growing like their on fire. Just 2-cents from a beginner.

I water from top but i have 5 drain holes in each cup/bucket
they look wet in the pics because I had just given them all a quick drink I check em daily look at the sides to make sure they are not damp of soaked plus that miracle gro seed starting soil always seems (to me anyway) a wet look
oh and the 4 seedling on the top right of pic i added a little potting soil to the top of the cup for stabiltiy today (also looks wet out of the bag) (to me) they were getting leggy
they probably will make it until may but after that well should have the new puppy by then so something will be neglected it wont be the puppy or my fly tying (tying is the bread winner) so guess which one will?? lol

Thats cool. I was just worried for ya. Are you using florescent lights? If so, you can keep the lights low enough that they are almost touching the plants without worry. I usually don't raise the lights until the plants literally start to growing into them. I had a grandfather that use to make his own flys, tried to show me once when I was too young to get it. I'm all thumbs though...LOL

yep i am using floro lights got it about 4 inches from plant tops (thats as close as I can get with the tank size). Tying is a practice practice practice art form I wish I never learned how to do as there is the always "i wonder if this material or piece of fur or this leaf or etc etc will work"

Try stacking old phone books or other material under the plants to raise them. A couple of 2x4's on their sides would work too. IMO that 4 inches will get them too leggy.

Plants looking good Tom...and I have to agree with Paul about the distance of the lights from the seedlings...they gotta be really close...

ty for the input i was thinkin yeah they are still too far away
and tonight i went to a party store to pick up some things and thought hmmmmm maybe i should buy some plastic cups and stack my seedling so they are higher to light well tommorow guess i should get them  besides i still need a few more to plant the remaining seeds i have big jalapeno is for my neighbor so thats 2 cups then the 2 numex seeds i have to plant (numex to make g/f happy she dont like the heat )

Hey pepper mike...
Love your peppers...however in my opinion your container looks too wet. The container mix may be holding too much water than it should for peppers. Try to keep it little drier.

You may have taken this picture right after watering..if so, ignore my comment. Please keep us updated on your pepper progress.

Sanjay.

Finally!! A real sunny day here in Michigan!!
All the youngin's are on the windowsill for some real light.
Its about time!:lol:But more snow forecast for Friday :(
Typical Michigan weather "if you dont like it wait 5 minutes it will change" lol

Well I didnt really want to but I retransplanted the Jalapeno 15 minutes ago. That bucket weighed a ton. That potting soil was just too darn thick and heavy so I redid the mixture. Now it feels alot lighter and seems like it will drain much easier.
But if it doesnt go right and the plant dies well...ITS JUST A CHILE!! just kidding
