getting ready for a new crop

I had planned on using seeds from these plants that I had been growing. I have decided other wise though due to the fact I'm not sure they are what they were said to be. First year mistake, do more research on vendors.  I may buy all new seeds this next season. These will certainly do for the heat though, we've made plenty of salsa and enjoyed it all at our own expense. I'm hoping next year is even hotter. This is what I've got going on right now, and they are popping out like crazy. 100's to pickle, eat, and dehydrate.

pics 2 and 3 are definitely mushrooms.... not so sure about pic 1
as a reference, the red mushrooms are about a jalapeno heat when ripe.... maybe a tad less

Oh those are far more hot the a jalapeno. They will light you up. I figured they were a red habanero, even of they arent, they're fierce. 1 pepper is plenty sufficiant to set you on fire.

I am hoping the scorpion seeds I planted turn out to be scorpions. Any source folks on here can recommend that have good viable seeds for sale that are true to what they say they are? I like'em hot and exotic. I've used the seedrack and I'm a bit disappointed and ebay is a fluke. Hard to fond trust worthy sellers out there.

your best bet is to trade seeds on here. I also use Burpee when I buy seeds... always 100% true to type. But you're not going to find bhuts, scorpions, etc. at burpee. I've bought from a few different reputable dealers with mixed results. Not an indictment of the sellers, just poor luck, I guess.

I may have a few extra Scorpion(OP)in a field, Bhut(OP) in my garden, and Morouga(isolated) seed and possibly more if you want to have some heat for next time.

I love SASBE's so if you have one I can examine I will gladly send you some. :D

So I did a little digging this morning based on your assessment of the heat level of your mushroom pepper, and I've found that there are Jamaican red mushrooms, which are habanero level heat in the 100,000-450,000 Scoville range, and then there are red squash peppers, AKA red cap mushroom peppers which register around 30,000. That definitely helps make sense of why mine aren't as hot as you described yours to be. They look almost identical to each other. I'd be interested in trading some seeds if the ones you've got have that tropical habanero type flavor.

Not a problem. I will be gathering the seeds from the various types and would gladly send some to those who want any. It won't be for a few weeks till i have them sorted.
'On Fire' I'm not sure of those abbreviations but I will gladly accept any seeds that you have to spare, or trade.
Towards the end of the year I should have planty to share, may even have a dried pepper to send with seeds for a sample.

OP means open pollinated. It's a courtesy to let people know that there could be some crossing if they decide to grow from open pollinated seeds. There's a possibility that you could plant bhut jolokias and end up with something else entirely.

"On Fire" refers to the member's number of posts. See how above my picture it says "Smokin' hot", and above your picture it says "mild"...... it's just THP's way of showing people's activity levels on the site. Edit: SASBE = Self-Addressed Stamped Bubble Envelope. I just learned that earlier this year... lol

Not trying to be OCD or snarky about it, just trying to help a fellow chilihead out!

Thanks Mr. Brian! I try to be, but often feel like I fall short of that! BTW.... I started something at work. Everyone was scared of the Jimmy Scorpion sauce when I first brought it, but the longer it's there, the more people are using it and being impressed by it. We'll be ready for a new bottle soon enough. I'll be sure to let you know when I'm ready too order some more.

To upload pictures, you'll need a flickr, photobucket, or other image hosting account. I iuse flickr. They have an iPhone app that let's you take pictures and adds them directly to your photostream. From there, you open the picture you want to share, copy the HTML code, come back to your post here, click on the little picture icon in the toolbar above the post, and paste the .jpg portion of the code into the space provided.

You should only paste in the section of the code that starts with "http://farm...... and ends with .jpg" extension

Go to your picture link you posted above...... see the little "share" box at the bottom right with the arrow in it? The HTML code is in there

As an FYI.... I went and ate one of my ripe red mushrooms, and that sucker was HOT!!!! Not quite habanero hot, but close! It made my eyes water and run tears.... lesson learned!
