Recently I ordered several sizes of rootpots from greenhousemegastore.com They are easily the least expensive root pouch solution I have found. 2Gal is only 75 cents....
 
When they first show up they are flattened out and look well...... Crappy. However after several months with my plants in various sizes I am happy to report these are the steal of the century. They work very well.
 
I have the more expensive "Smart pot" on another plant and have not noticed a difference between the 2 types.

I just figured I would share since I have seen several fabric pot posts the last few months.
 
 
 
I have heard of folks using those blue walmart bags if you don't care about the color.  Possibly worth checking out.  They are also cheap but I have no personal experience with them.
 
Any store brand of reusable fabric shopping bags are the same unwoven polypropylene that smart pots are made of. Several members here used the Walmart ones and had great success. They break down after a season but they're only like .50¢. You can also make your own by buying a roll of pond underlayment (same unwoven polypropylene only thicker) and make literally hundreds of pots. Landscape fabric is normally too thin to last very long. You need something like this

That is the thicker felt type of polypropylene the big companies make them from. That roll is 5 X 15 so do the math and you can make a whole lot of pots for $25

Just curius. How well do this hold moisture. Do you guys set this in a pot or do you just leave this outside?

I am growing in a small indoor closet. I have them just in the fabric pots side by side under the lights. They are working very well. I will be doing some transplants today if I can I will snap a few pics. 
 
They work well outside in general.A buddy of mine just chopped an old plant that he got out in the late season. We pulled it from the pot and it was basically all root. Regular watering is not much different than a plastic pot, just slightly more frequent. Not by much though.

excellent link. I'm going to check a couple of my local shops first, but pretty sure I'm going to pull the trigger on a 10 pack of 7 gal pots.

Anyone have the link to the dimensions to make different smart pots on a "herb" growing website. Looking to make some 7-10#
 
Discarded / damaged trampoline jump mats are another fabric source. A wanted ad on the local Freecycle site should bag you quite a few..
 
I'll echo the OP, I have the fabric pots from green mega and they work great.  I'll never buy another "Smart Pot" again.    Wife wont allow a yard full of walmart bags, so black or brown it is and the handles are nice too.   All 7 & 10 gal for me this year.  Going to see how many I can keep alive this winter
