All of the variaties listed under experimental test grow are from pods of those varieties that I grew during the 2013 season.  For every variety listed I have saved the seeds of the absolute best looking pods from the best looking plants and kept them in isolation from each other.  It was an open-air pollination and I am hoping for interesting crosses to show up when I grow them out in the bottom lands.  I have a picture of each of the pods the seeds were taken from and I will post those soon.

My over-all goal is to select the best looking pods from the best looking plants again... grow those out in 2015... and continue the process... who knows where the rabbit-hole will lead.

So....yesterday I started the soak on the chinenses for my home garden... today I sowed all 176 seeds of 15 chinense varieties after their 24 hour soaking.  One mustard hab had already germinated

The anuums, baccatums, and frutescens for the home garden will be sown a month later (early feb).  The expiremental test grow in the bottom lands will begin in late Feb.  I will also sow my tomatoes around that time.  The last wave will be my flowers.

Primarily it is going to be a grow for fun.  I just want to find cool crosses (just from random pollen drift)...  I wont be feeding them fancy nutrients nor will I be tending to them with the utmost care.  Those luxuries will be allocated to my home garden.  The bottom lands where i will be planting has extremely fertile topsoil.  So the test grow will be partially a neglect grow.  However, due to the sheer number of pepper plants... I do expect to be able to make a few bucks worth of profit @ the flea market with the pounds of peppers produced.

Sorry for taking so long to update my glog... here are a few pics.. things are going slowly but surely.

These are the chinense seeds I planted on January 3rd.

This next pic shows those same three trays a little over a week later.
IMG_7790.JPG

Here are those plants a full month after being sown.
IMG_7807.JPG

These four trays contain all of the other species of capsicum, which I planted yesterday, February 4th.

Onto making some simple worm tea... its a fairly straight forward process.
IMG_7826.JPG

Get a screen and a surface to catch the filtered castings.
IMG_7828.JPG

Dig into the middle of the worm farm.
IMG_7837.JPG

Grab a hadfull or two of goodness and place it on the screen.  Ever-so-gently brush the mix across the screen... dump whats left back into the worm farm and repeat a few times.
IMG_7838.JPG

You will be left with this.... pick out any worms or egg sacs you might see.
IMG_7839.JPG

Load the fluffy greatness into nylon bags.
IMG_7841.JPG

IMG_7842.JPG

Suspend the bags so that the worm castings will be submerged
IMG_7844.JPG

Add water and a pinch of molassess.
IMG_7845.JPG

Let her bubble for 24-36 hours... and she should be bubbling over the top with a caramel froth.... I will post pictures of the finished product tomorrow.

Great project, Noah.

For reasons that are purely pragmatic, I have chosen to narrow my list of seed for the Experimental Test Grow in the Bottom Lands down to 36 types.  I will plant 6 seeds of each.

Well... I went insane last night and bought a whole slew of resources for my plants this year including biodegradable landscaping cloth, glacial rock dust, azomite, volcanic rock dust, biochar, and gypsum all to go into/onto the garden.  For the plants while they are still indoors I ordered some happy frog, ocean forest, ancient forest, roots organic, shrimp compost, seaweed compost, vermiculite, perlite, cococoir, and I will be picking up two bales of promix today.  Hopefully it will allcome in by this weekend so I can transplant my babies.  I plan to charge the biochar using my own home-made worm castings, azomite, and some organic meals, as well as hydrating it with AACT.

On a side note I will go ahead and admit that I have an aphid problem poping up.  They have been around for over a week now... I kill them by hand every time I see them... however, this morning I examined my plants and found a fairly large population on a few of the plants.  So I am preparing to spray a mild solution of Gognats (cedar oil.)  Because aphids are primarily soil-born, I suspect the "old" potting soil I used to germinate my seeds is to blame.  My mom had a bale of promix sitting in the front corner of her car port for about 2 years.... so I asked and she agreed to let me have it.  However, I suspect that in those years of sitting, it somehow (lawn mower throwing shit at it for example) picked up some pathogens including aglea spores and aphid eggs.  I have had problems with algea and aphids.  The other possibility is that my brother, who came to visit the wekend before the aphids started popping up... was telling me about his horrific aphid problem he has with his indoor plants.  So he could have possibly carried some with him from Lexington.  And the algea could be due to the t5 aquarium lights I am using for the first timee this year.  Perhaps algea is prone to grow in such spectrums.

So yeah.... I may have killed all of my chinenses.... what a f*cking bummer.   The cedar oil I used to kill the aphids also killed my plants.  I mixed it up to half strength concentration.  However, I was unaware that you MUST* turn off the lights after spraying until the water dries... or else your plants will suffocate and die.  I left the lights on and within 7 hours the tops of all of my plants are turing brown... with translucent patches and soft drooping leaves.  If they survive this it will be a miracle... but saddly it does look as though they bought the farm.
