Only to those not as good as him.
 
Jimmy Page doubled  the riff for "Black Dog".
 
He played it EXACTLY!
 
SRV is a great guitar player.
 
But he didn't come up with no "Stairway" or "Kashmir"
 
I think his leads were sloppy TB but that is partly because he played his guitar slung way too low.
Listen to Heartbreaker and you hear it.
Kashmir is my favorite song of theirs and Physical Graffiti was their best album in my humble opinion. We wore out that cassette as teenagers riding our skateboards during the early 70's.
 
I don't think think he was that overrated. Definitely not anywhere near the Santana level. It's sad he languished after Zep though.
 
His style has always been viewed as sloppy, but the whole of his compositions (songs, solos, electric, acoustic) were excellent.
 
I agree about the Santana comment as well. He is a good guitarist but not a phenomenal one like SRV, Hendrix, Beck, Gilmour, Satriani, Eric Johnson, Gary Moore, Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, etc.
