seeds Fairly large seed order just placed

Well everyone, due to my rapidly growing addiction to growing peppers, and the big success of my Jalapeno grow, I've gone to the next level. In addition to having a bell pepper plant well on its way in my back yard, and having Serrano and Poblano chiles sprouting inside (and of course don't forget the Jalapeno growing hydroponically inside), I have a whole new array of seeds on their way. Here's what I just ordered today from NMSU:

(1) Bhut Jolokia
(1) Tabasco
(1) Takanotsume
(1) Orange Habanero
(1) Aji Lemon
(1) Santaka
(1) NuMex Twilight

Too bad they didn't have Scotch Bonnet in their catalog. I'd like to try those too.

This pepper addiction is starting to get a little out of hand! :P

Good for you!

I am not sure where you are, but be sure to check locally to see what is available. Last year I got an Orange Hab plant at Lowe's that produced like crazy.

Trading for seeds here is a great resource too. Good luck!

I'm from the San Diego area. I haven't checked the local stores much. I just knew I wanted those bhut jolokia seeds and since there's a minimum order amount I indulged in the variety.

What type of Hydro are you using? I'm trying to gather as much nutrient info for Hydro peppers as I can. If you could tell me precisely what you use and how much, I'd sure appreciate it.

Nat

Nat, take a look at some of my other posts regarding my hydro setup. My jalapeno is in a 5 gallon bucket DWC system. Lighting originally was an array of CFL bulbs, but now is a 400w HPS lamp.

I use Fox Farm nutrients (Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, and Big Bloom). There are other cheaper ones out there which seem to work great as well though. I follow the Fox Farm schedule (you can get it on their web site), but their schedule is pretty strong so I use the same ratios, but at a much smaller rate. For example, I have been on the week 12 schedule for a while now (2 tsp/gal Grow Big, 1 tsp/gal Tiger Bloom, 1 tbl/gal Big Bloom). With a fresh reservoir, I start out with half the prescribed amount or even less, and work my way up to my target TDS of about 450-550 ppm. This has been the best concentration for the majority of the grow. As of the last week and a half or so, however, I've increased the level to around 900-1000ppm since I was seeing some deficiencies. So far it doesn't seem to have hurt the plant, and the problems are going away. The plant is quite mature right now though and must have at least 25-30 peppers growing on it, so I think it can handle the higher levels a bit easier.

hix, I don't really know what some of them are either. The picture and description looked good though so I was sold. :-)

Well, I got a welcome surprise from my co-worker today. We started chatting about growing peppers a couple of days ago and discovered each other's interest in them. Today, a grocery bag full of probably 20 different packs of pepper seeds landed on my desk! In the collection, I found a pack of Scotch Bonnet seeds. Score! Here is what I took:

California Wonder Orange
Greek Pepperoncini
Scotch Bonnet
Cayenne
Anaheim

Looks like I have a hell of a lot of work to do

Man, loudawgucr with these last you got and the order you placed, you'll have a good selection to grow. Somehow I missed the scotch bonnet in all my orders. I saw some Hab plants at Home Depot the other day, but they wern't marked with anything but "Habenero". The pic on the seedling looked like a golden color, but who knows what the plant really is?

I have a 4 day weekend coming. Thursday is my last workday until Tuesday, so I'm going to do all my putting into germination, buying containers and soil and nutes. I'm putting the pots on a 2x12 supported by cinderblocks for now. Not too fancy, but it'll get the job done. I want to keep them off the ground.

I got a line on a place selling a small greenhouse for $200 each. I'm going to look into it and see if it's junk or what. My current greenhouse is 10 x 20, but I have to dismantle it to move it to another part of the yard that gets better sun. It won't be up and ready until next years crops. It's a NFT/Drip Hybrid, 80 grow site setup. It's just like the one in the pics, but 40 grow sites per/unit. I use two setups back to back.

Nat, looks sweet! I have been really considering an NFT setup outside. I've been too distracted to look more into it lately, but I would LOVE to do that over soil if possible. For this season, I may just stick to soil outside though. Do you have any links or more info about the greenhouse? I have been trying to come up with a good plan for making a dedicated part of the yard a veggie garden, and a small greenhouse with a hydro system would be awesome.
