Swampys Kiwi grow.

Hi guys

Greetings from New Zealand
We are about a month away from the shortest day so its almost time to start up some chillis.
This is my first real attempt at growing chillis so it should be fun.
I will be starting off under lights, then moving into a greenhouse that i have yet to build before moving them outside.
I have received all my seeds and just need to decide which ones and how many to grow.
These are what I have:

Numex Big Jim
Cayenne long Red
Jalapeno
Bhut jolokia
Red Habenero
Ancho ST Luis
Dorset Naga
Red 7 pot
Fatalli
Aji lemon drop
Naga Morich
Yellow Morich Scorpion
Bishops crown

Will keep you posted.  :)

Welcome and good luck! How long is the growing season in NZ?

Thanks.
Where I live(Hamilton)our first frost is normally around now and last being Septemberish so outdoor growing season normally 7-8 months.
Obviously with a greenhouse/growroom a lot longer is possible.
Gets nice and hot here during summer  :)

Good to see another NZer here :)
I already have some seeds started, and more germinating, they are doing just fine!
Get some started in your hot water cupboard/ Heat mat. Why wait!?  :P
Here is 2 Jonah;s and a Butch T braving the cold in the morning, and doing great on my windowsill with zero artifical light!
Get your grow on

How long did it take for those to germinate?
How did you start them off, they are looking great.

They germinated in between one and two weeks I would estimate.

First I soaked the seeds in a shot glass of water overnight. I leave the shot glass sitting on-top of my modem to keep the water warmish.

I then plant the seeds in jiffy pellets, and place them inside a plastic fast food container with a couple of mm of water in the bottom of it, and cover it with glad wrap to keep in the moisture/humidity.

I then put the fast food container on top of the hot water cylinder in my hot water cupboard. (the heat on top of the cylinder seems to vary in different places, I found it best to put them on the warmest bit I could find, next to where the copper tube goes in on the top of it)

As soon as I see any signs of life (a hook, before first cotys appear), I simply put them on the window sill in my bed room that gets direct sunlight. It may be a good idea to move them into the hot water cupboard at night while they are still hooks.

As mentioned they have never seen artificial light...im a cheapo and wont pay for power to grow my plants when the sun seems like it will do a great job for me :)

I soaked my seeds in a weak tea solution overnight  and put them into some seed raising mix today.
They are in a small grow box with an incandescent light for warmth
50 went down

Dorset nagas                     9
yellow morich Scorpion      9
AJi lemon drop                   7
Big Jim                               5
Red Cayenne                    5
Red Habanero                   6
Bhut Jolokia                       9

Hey looking good mate.
I hope its warm enough in there though! I cant quite make out the numbers.
The soil needs to be a constant 20deg C + I believe.(while germinating)
