Fermentation Gone Wild

This is probably only the second time this has happened in my home brewing career.  Temp only went from 64F to 68F in a 30 hour span.  White Labs London Ale Yeast.  You might call it vigorous.  I should have had the blow-off tube on right from the start...good bye airlock...duh...

Everything should be dried on really good by the time fermentation subsides, and I can pull out the carboy, and get to cleaning.  I'd rather clean a toilet!

Try making a stout with that yeast. I had nearly a gallon of black, tarry sh~t all over my kitchen floor. The mrs went spazo....
I now have to brew in the shed

LOL, when I did my first brews I had them in a closet in the downstairs bathroom. Wife said it would be ok to keep them in there. Now I didn't have any explosive blow off but she didn't care for the smell when ever she had to go in there. Sooooo, when we were looking for a new house she made sure that i had a room in the house just for me to do my brewing and hot sauce making.

Sometimes it pays off ;)

I have to use a blow off tube nearly every single beer I brew these days. A vigorous yeast strain and a healthy pitch rate will do that.

BTW word of caution. Clean the caked on yeast real good on the carboy and around the opening. I let one go w out cleaning it at all after a blow off like that and it started smelling putrid and sure enough I had maggots crawling all over my carboy :(

Not a proud moment

I use a 1" diameter tube, wedge it into the carboy neck and forget about the airlock. Good thing it wasn't a hefeweizen! Those are also some vigorous fermentations.
