water Salt Water

A friend lives on the shore in New Jersey. Recently she said that the sea rose into her garden. My question is, what to do about salt water in your garden?? Anybody have any ideas? Or is it just time to cut your loses, n start again next year? Thanks for any info.

That happened to my parents a while back and though they tried everything in their power to save their carnations but alas they died... I can't think of anything other than rinse the salt out, but that could be difficult.

Dry land salinity is a problem here, and there is some research on reducing salt in soils with some plants. Sadly, salt tolerant plantings may be the only long term solution. Or, where possible, transplant into planters/pots with fresh soil.

Because I was an idiot and added too much salt to my tomato juice I had to find a way to neutrlize the effect. The suggested remedy was addng potatoes. It worked - though I used instant potatoes. I have no clue if this will help.
